Gloria Steinem spent her life fighting to build a world we still have not fully realized.

A world where women could control their own finances and futures. Where their voices mattered at the ballot box and in the halls of power. Where talent, hard work, and the merits of what someone brings to the table matter more than their gender or a broken system designed to hold them back.

She was fierce, persistent, and unwilling to accept that inequality was simply the way things had to be.

So much of what we now take for granted was once considered radical. And so much of what she fought for remains unfinished.

The best way to honor Gloria Steinem is not simply to remember the battles she fought, but to keep building the world she believed was possible: one where all of us have the freedom and opportunity to become everything we are capable of becoming.

May her memory inspire action.

Did you know? On average, 33 falls a day are reported by Brown County ERs, hospitals, and local EMS (excluding Urgent Care & Clinic settings). Let’s work together to reduce that number!

Join us for Freedom From Falls, a free community event dedicated to staying safe, healthy, and independent as we age:

📆 September 23, 2026
⏰ 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
📍 Green Bay Botanical Gardens, 2600 Larsen Rd, Green Bay

📞 Registration is required by 9/18/26. Call the ADRC at 920-448-4300.

There are steps we can take to reduce our risk of falling as we age. It starts with believing we can and finding the resources we need to make changes to keep us safe!

A pair of northeast Wisconsin state lawmakers joined local activists at the Brown County Courthouse last month to urge the DA’s office to take action on the complaints.

State Rep. Amaad Rivera-Wagner, D-Green Bay, spoke at that press conference. On Tuesday afternoon, he told WPR that he was “frustrated” with the decision by the La Crosse County district attorney.

He said it “reinforces this idea that we have a two-tier justice system” with one tier for everyday Wisconsinites and another one for the wealthy and the powerful.

“The bipartisan elections commission thought it was illegal, and ultimately, on what seems like a technicality, we’re claiming that we can’t pursue charges,” he said. “This is why people are frustrated with the status quo of both politics and power.”

Billionaire Elon Musk will not face criminal charges related to a social media post he made offering $1 million to people who voted in the 2025 state Supreme Court race, the La Crosse County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Dolly Parton showed us that love is an action.

She helped fund lifesaving vaccine research, stood proudly with the LGBTQ+ community, and put books into the hands of millions of children through her Imagination Library.

Dolly gave us unforgettable music, but her greatest legacy may be how generously she gave back. She made our country kinder, brighter, and better.

We will always love you, Dolly. ❤️

Justice cannot depend on the size of your bank account.

Here in Green Bay, community organizations were warned that food, rides, or even a bottle of water could constitute election bribery. Yet despite a bipartisan finding of probable cause, Elon Musk’s $1 million payments will result in no charges.

If those entrusted to enforce our laws will not hold the powerful accountable, the people of Wisconsin will at the ballot box.

We cannot be bought. Wisconsin is not for sale.

What a fun day in Green Bay!

I started at ArtFest Green Bay, where I ran into some wonderful friends, including my neighbor selling some great art pieces, and Beth A Kowalski, the former Executive Director of the Neville Public Museum. Kudos to Downtown Green Bay, Inc.Inc. for putting on another fantastic event! If you haven’t made it to ArtFest yet, it’s open Sunday too, right in the heart of downtown.

Then spent the afternoon talking to neighbors near Green Bay Preble High School.

Love this city!

What a fabulous day across the 90th, and another reminder of why it’s so easy to love Green Bay.

I started with NeighborWorks Green Bay, helping identify community leaders interested in serving on our board. Then I met with rising UW-Green Bay seniors and juniors organizing a hackathon Hackgb that will bring fresh energy to solving complicated challenges. Interested in sponsoring or building a team? www.hackgb.com

Later, I joined Devester Choo and other local leaders working to bring an R&B festival to Green Bay celebrating our musical heritage and diverse community. You can always get me to good vibes by mentioning Boyz II Men!

I ended the day with some of the best soul food I’ve ever had from Soul food chef, parked right in the 90th at Family Dollar on main.

From solving problems to making our city more flavorful and musical, these are the days that make it so easy to love Green Bay.

State Rep. Amaad Rivera-Wagner, D-90th District, co-authored a petition discouraging the merger, saying it would negatively impact the museum’s future and creative direction.

“The truth is we’re now at the next step of the process. Where the public should be more involved in the future of a public institution like the Neville,” Rivera-Wagner said.

“Despite this monumental conversation around the merging, the potential merging of the Neville Museum with the Children’s Museum, there was almost no public hearings or public committee meetings on the actual status of a plan, what options there were,” Rivera-Wagner said.

There are concerns the Neville could lose its museum accreditation if it does not find an executive director.

Wisconsin’s complicated and sometimes messy race for governor showed exactly why I worked to introduce ranked-choice voting legislation.

Nearly 68,000 votes went to candidates who had already withdrawn. With ranked-choice voting, people could name a second choice, ensuring their vote still matters even if their preferred candidate drops out.

From Green Bay to every corner of Wisconsin, voters deserve a system that strengthens their voice and ensures the winner has broad support.

This year, I traded my seat for the conductor’s hat and helped guide the trolley to Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin’s Green & Gold Gala, their largest annual fundraiser!

I’m grateful to our local powerhouse of good, Emily Larson Smith, for inviting me to volunteer. One of the best parts of the evening was meeting one of the bus drivers working the event.

She raised most of her children as a single mother, and I was raised by one. We bonded over what hard work really means and how even hardworking families sometimes need their community and government to offer a hand up.

Today, she has built a successful career, and I went from homelessness to serving in the halls of power. That night, we were both supporting Family Services and its work providing mental health care, crisis intervention, and support for children and families.

That is what makes Green Bay special. We come from different backgrounds, but we share resilience, look out for one another, and believe hard work should pay off.
