Please join us in welcoming Officer Jordan Bullins to the Madison Police Department team!

We were proud to introduce Officer Bullins at tonight’s Town Aldermen meeting. Officer Bullins comes to us from Stokes County and brings almost ten years of law enforcement experience to our department.

He will be assigned to our Patrol Division, where he is excited to serve and get to know our community.

If you see Officer Bullins around town, be sure to say hello and give him a warm welcome!

SEE TRACKS? THINK TRAIN® WEEK 2026

Rail safety is everyone’s responsibility.🚂🛤

This week, the Madison Police Department is joining communities across the country for See Tracks? Think Train® Week, September 21–27, to remind our community about the importance of staying safe around railroad tracks and crossings.

Railroad tracks are not a place to walk, explore, take photos, or use as a shortcut. If you’re driving and approach a railroad crossing, never try to beat a train through the crossing. Trains can travel faster than they appear and need a significant distance to come to a complete stop.
Here are a few important reminders:

▪️Pay attention to crossing signals, signs, lights, and gates.
▪️Never drive around a lowered crossing gate, even if you don’t see a train.
▪️Look and listen before crossing railroad tracks.
▪️Stay off railroad tracks and railroad property.
▪️If your vehicle becomes stuck on the tracks, get out immediately and move away from the tracks. Then call 911.

According to Operation Lifesaver, a person or vehicle is struck by a train somewhere in the United States approximately every three hours.

Taking a few extra seconds to wait for a train could make all the difference.

Last night, at the Madison Town Alderman meeting, we had the opportunity to introduce four new officers to our department!

Officer Shannon Tallent joins us with 23 years of law enforcement experience. She is serving as the School Resource Officer of Western Rockingham Middle School.

Officer Veronica Kidwell comes to us as a recent graduate of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at Rockingham Community College. She has started her Field Training Program and will be serving on patrol.

Officer Joe Martin joins us with over 27 years of law enforcement experience. He is serving as the School Resource Officer at the SCORE Center.

And finally, Officer Chris Alston joins us with almost two years of law enforcement experience. He has started his Field Training Program and will be serving on patrol.

Please help us welcome our newest members to the department! As you see them around town, please say hello and introduce yourself!

Monday night, we celebrated as two of our future officers, Veronica Kidwell and Joe Martin, graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Rockingham Community College!

Both Veronica and Joe have worked hard to reach this milestone, and we couldn’t be prouder of their dedication and commitment to a career in law enforcement.

We are especially proud to recognize Veronica, who received the Most Improved Physical Fitness Award during the academy. This award is a testament to her hard work, determination, and willingness to push herself throughout the course.

Joe brings experience to the table as well. He was previously sworn in as a law enforcement officer in Virginia and completed the required portion of the North Carolina BLET program to obtain his North Carolina law enforcement certification.

We’re looking forward to welcoming both Veronica and Joe to our agency in the coming weeks and watching them begin this next chapter of their law enforcement careers.

Today, School Resource Officers Robertson and Tallent kicked off the school year in style as they welcomed students back to Dilllard Academy and Western Rockingham Middle School. We’re excited for another year of learning, growing, and building strong relationships between our schools, students, families, and law enforcement.

Yesterday, Madison Police Chief Hester, District Attorney Gregg, Rockingham County Schools Superintendent Dr. Perkins, and other Rockingham County law enforcement leaders joined together for the School Bus Safety Press Conference.

As the 2026–2027 school year approaches, we want to remind everyone that the return of our students means an increase in traffic, school buses, and activity around our schools and neighborhoods.

Madison Police officers will be in the community helping keep students safe and enforcing traffic laws in and around school zones. Drivers are reminded to put down their phones, eliminate distractions, obey school-zone speed limits, and stop when required for school buses.

Our children should never have to compete with a driver's phone, distraction, or impatience for their safety.

When kids are near the road, your attention belongs on the road.

Officer Tallent comes to us with 23 years of law enforcement experience. She will be taking on the role of School Resource Officer at Western Rockingham Middle School. She is a great asset to the Madison Police Department, and she is excited to make meaningful connections with the students, faculty, and parents at WRMS.
