Today was a special day for Morgan County Fire Rescue. We celebrated the completion of our new live fire training structure with a ribbon cutting and dedication with some very special families that are near and dear to our hearts. The building is being dedicated in memory of Chris Eddy, Chris McGlauchlen, and Keith Arnold, three dedicated members of the department who left us too soon. The families of Chris Eddy, Chris McGlauchlen, and Keith Arnold were here to celebrate with us and cut the ribbon opening up our new training facility, The Eddy-McGlauchlen-Arnold Fire Training Academy.

Today at 1118 hours Morgan County Fire Rescue was dispatched to 3530 Davis Academy Road to a reported structure fire. Battalion 1 and Engine 16 arrived on scene to find a small, detached structure with smoke and flames on the interior. An attack line was deployed and quick knock down of the fire was achieved. During overhaul it was discovered that a faulty electrical outlet was the cause of the fire. Engine 9, Tender 2, Tender 3, and Tender 7 also responded to the scene. Engine 3 was cancelled enroute to the fire and posted at FS 16 while other units were out of service on Davis Academy.

🔥 Wildfire Update – Georgia (5/6/26)

Yesterday, the Georgia Forestry Commission responded to 12 new wildfires that burned 42.7 acres statewide.

These numbers do not include:
• The Pineland Rd Fire, which has burned 32,575 acres and is now 65% contained
• The Highway 82 Fire, which has burned 22,471 acres and remains 85% contained

Containment continues to improve, but both fires remain active and crews are still working to strengthen and secure containment lines.

⚠️ Safety Reminders:
➡️ Please stay clear of active fire areas unless you live or work there
➡️ 🚁 Never fly drones near wildfires—firefighting aircraft must have clear airspace
➡️ Slow down and use caution in areas where smoke may impact visibility
➡️ Continue following guidance from local officials and emergency personnel

Even with recent progress, drought conditions continue to keep wildfire danger elevated across parts of Georgia.

These home school students paid a visit this morning to Fire Station 16 and the Morgan County 911 Center to learn about how 911 calls are processed and what it takes to become a firefighter. We have several years before we can recruit any of these kiddos, but they all could grow up to be first responders.

🔥 Wildfire Update – Georgia (5/2/26)

Yesterday, the Georgia Forestry Commission responded to 4 new wildfires, burning 1.22 acres statewide.

This does not include:
• The Pineland Rd Fire, now at 32,575 acres and 44% contained
• The Highway 82 Fire, now at 22,532 acres and 45% contained

🌧️ A bit of good news:
We’re receiving some helpful rain on the fires today. It won’t put them out, but it will slow fire activity and give crews a chance to make progress—shifting from defense to offense, and hopefully allowing for some much-needed rest.

⚠️ Safety Reminders:
➡️ Continue to avoid active fire areas so crews can work safely
➡️ 🚁 Keep drones grounded—air operations depend on clear airspace
➡️ Be cautious on roads where smoke may reduce visibility
➡️ Stay tuned to local alerts for any updates or changes in conditions

Even with rain, these fires remain active and conditions can change quickly.

We’re grateful for the continued work of firefighters, first responders, and partners across Georgia—and for the support of communities doing their part.

Every call, every acre, and every response matters—and so does prevention.

Fighting fire. Protecting forests. Serving Georgia.

If you have driven down Mission Road lately, you may have noticed a lot of activity at Fire Station 10. We are building the new Morgan County Fire Rescue live fire training facility. This new 3 story facility will finally allow Morgan County to capture all of its facility training points under the ISO Fire Suppression Rating Schedule. The requirements are a two-acre training site, a 3-story building, and dedicated smoke room. We are working hard to lower the ISO score for our homeowners in Morgan County.

On Wednesday April 22nd Morgan County Fire Rescue had the privilege to visit with the Morgan County Head Start Program and talk about fire safety. A big part of the public education at this age is showing them what a firefighter looks like in full turnout gear so hopefully if we do have to go in, they are not scared of what we look like. They usually get a kick out of the lights and sirens as well.
