Annandale Chapter sponsored the JROTC Bronze Medal at Callaway High School on May 15, 2026. The bronze medal recipient was Vilma Guzman. Cadet Guzman was chosen for this medal by her advisors based on her skills in leadership, academics, patriotism, professionalism, and teamwork.

The DAR Patriots of the American Revolution Essay Contest is open to all grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 students in a public, private, or parochial school, or those who are home schoolers, are eligible. The essay topic: Select a figure from the era of the American Revolution (1773-1783). Discuss how he or she influenced the course of the American Revolution, who he or she was and his/her contribution to the founding of a new nation. Your figure may be any person, whether a well-known figure or an everyday man, woman or child who supported the American Revolution in ways large or small.
Debbie Cannon, Annandale Chapter American History Chairman presented the Patriots of the American Revolution Award to Lincoln Hardy of Rosa Scott. Lincoln went on to win first place in the MS State Society contest and was presented that certificate at the state conference in February.

The Daughters of the American Revolution American History Essay Contest and American History Video Contest is open for grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 in public, private, parochial schools, or those who are home schooled. The topic for 2025-2026 was “Lunch with a Signer”. Question: America will celebrate her 250th birthday on July 4, 2026! If you could go back in time and meet one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence for lunch, who would you choose? How did their actions and service contribute to our Country becoming independent?

The Annandale chapter Madison Middle School 6th grade American History Essay winner was Walker Baird. The American History Video Essay winner was McKinley Hutto. McKinley went on to win 1st place in the MSSDAR State Contest.

The DAR Youth Leadership Award is based on honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. The Citizenship Medal is open to student’s grades 5 through 11. It is a wonderful way to recognize outstanding young people who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools and communities.

The Annandale chapter Madison Middle School 8th grade winner of the American History Essay contest was Olivia Weeks. Olivia also went on to win first place in the Mississippi State Society contest and she received her certificate at the state conference in February. Annandale Chapter American History Chairman Debbie Cannon presented Olivia her chapter certificate at the awards day program on May 12, 2026.

The DAR Good Citizenship Essay and Scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with their state boards of education.
