💥 Rescue Squad Week 💥

This week, we proudly celebrate the dedicated men and women of the Monroe County Rescue Squad — a 100% volunteer organization committed to serving our community day and night. Our members answer the call during emergencies, accidents, rescues, disasters, and community events, giving their time, skills, and hearts without expecting anything in return.

Being volunteer-based means every response, every late-night call, every training session, and every life touched comes from people who choose to serve because they care deeply about Monroe County and its citizens.

Rescue Squad Week is a time to recognize the sacrifices, commitment, and teamwork that make this organization strong. We are grateful for the support of our community, families, sponsors, and fellow first responders who stand beside us.

The Monroe County Rescue Squad is more than an emergency service — it is neighbors helping neighbors, built on dedication, compassion, and pride in serving others.

Yesterday turned into a true example of what teamwork and mutual aid are all about.

Around 1:30 PM yesterday May 16th, units were dispatched for a female patient at the very bottom of Conasauga Falls with a serious leg injury approximately 3/4 of a mile down the trailhead. After reaching the patient, crews determined she had suffered a broken leg along with a dislocated ankle.

With the combined efforts of everyone involved, the patient was carefully packaged into our stokes basket and wheeled back up the trail to awaiting EMS for transport to Sweetwater Hospital. Calls like these are physically demanding and require coordination, manpower, and dedication from multiple agencies working together seamlessly.

A huge thank you to everyone who responded and assisted:

* Conasauga Fire
* Monroe County EMS
* Shawn Reece (USFS)
* Christianburg Fire
* Gudger Fire
* Notchy Creek Fire
* Mount Vernon Fire
* Mutual aid crews from McMinn and Blount Counties

We are incredibly thankful for the teamwork displayed and wish the patient a speedy recovery.
