A marginal risk of severe thunderstorms is possible for much of the forecast area tomorrow afternoon and evening. Primary hazards are damaging wind gusts and heavy rain with the possibility of localized flooding. How things end up panning out will mainly be dependent on the degree of clearing following morning rain.

Monroe County Emergency Management is proud to sponsor an opportunity for citizens to help their neighbors and community during times of disaster through the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.

The Monroe County CERT program helps educate and train citizens in disaster preparedness and basic emergency response skills, including:

• Fire safety
• Light search and rescue
• Team organization
• Disaster medical operations

CERT members are trained to assist their neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities following emergencies when professional responders may not be immediately available.

CERT is about readiness, people helping people, rescuer safety, and doing the greatest good for the greatest number.

Through this training, citizens learn how to:
• Manage utilities and extinguish small fires
• Treat life-threatening conditions such as blocked airways, severe bleeding, and shock
• Provide basic medical aid
• Conduct safe search and rescue operations
• Organize and work effectively with volunteers during emergencies

In disasters, the actions taken in the first few minutes can make a difference. CERT training empowers ordinary citizens to be prepared and ready to serve their community when it matters most.

See attached photos and information below for more details on how to get involved.
