Lions Supporting Run for the Paws!

The Madisonville Lions Club is proud to support the Hopkins County Humane Society and its mission to care for homeless animals in our community.

A special thank you to fellow Lions Dustin Potenza (missing from photo), Melissa Taylor, Crystal Carlton, and Duane Snyder for their dedication to the Hopkins County Humane Society and the countless hours they invested to help make this year's Run for the Paws a success.

We would also like to recognize the Lions who volunteered their time on race day but are not pictured: Mike Kelley, Tim Bell, and Kent Aiken. Your willingness to serve is greatly appreciated.

Also, thank you to fellow Lions Bob Moberly and Mike & Susanne Wolford for participating in the run and supporting this wonderful event.

The Lions Club motto is "We Serve," and our members continue to demonstrate that commitment by supporting organizations and events that make a positive impact throughout Hopkins County.

Thank you all for your service, support, and dedication to our community!

Thank you to Brittany Dunn, APRN, with Deaconess Clinic Dermatology, for joining us last week and sharing such valuable information about skin cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection.**

Brittany provided helpful tips on protecting your skin, recognizing warning signs, understanding the different types of skin cancer, and why early detection can truly save lives. Her expertise and practical advice gave our members important tools to help protect their health and the health of their loved ones.

We appreciate Brittany taking the time to educate and inspire our club. Thank you for helping us raise awareness about the importance of skin cancer prevention and early detection! ☀️🩺💙

Our Wednesday lunch meeting featured local businessman Doug Leisure as our guest speaker. Doug shared his personal experience with a phone scam that he almost fell victim to, offering an important reminder for all of us to stay alert and cautious.

He encouraged our members to always question suspicious phone calls, emails, and messages — and to never give out personal information, credit card numbers, or money to unknown sources.

Thank you, Doug, for sharing your experience and helping remind our community how to protect themselves from becoming a target of scams. Your message was both timely and appreciated!

Today, our Lions Clubs lunch guest was Steven Ray. Mr. Ray is incredibly knowledgeable about the rich history of our great community, including the complete history of the Lions Club Men and Women of the Year Awards dating all the way back to their beginning in 1945.

He has carefully curated a remarkable book containing newspaper articles, award information, and obituaries honoring each recipient through the years — documenting 77 men and 79 women who have received this special recognition.

Thank you, Mr. Ray, for sharing your passion, dedication, and preservation of our community’s history with us today!
