Governor Kathy Hochul announced a statewide burn ban is now in effect due to increased fire risk and continued dry conditions.

The Madrid Volunteer Fire Department will be attending the 9/11 Memorial Service in Waddington this evening. We would like to invite you, the community, to join us at the Island View Park (end of main st) at 5:30 pm for a service and memorial walk to the American Legion (23 Fenton st)

Tonight, September 2nd, we will be conducting a training exercise at Madrid-Waddington School beginning at 6pm to last approximately 3 hours. Firetrucks and firefighters will be areas visible to the public. This is only a drill.

The St. Lawrence County Burn Ban remains in effect until Tuesday, August 12.
Based on the current weather forecast for this week and beyond, it is likely the ban will be extended.

Please exercise extreme caution with any outdoor fire activity, including:

-Campfires

-BBQ grills and smokers

-Machinery and welding

-Smoking materials

Conditions remain extremely dry. The current burn ban was issued on August 7, and a State of Emergency is in effect for “extremely dry conditions” through September 5, 2025.

Your cooperation helps protect our community, property, and first responders. Thank you for doing your part to prevent wildfires. Low humidity (for us) in combination with wind make for some very fast moving fires - Please be very careful.
