Magazine Police Department

Magazine Police Department A part-time deputy who is paid for by the City of Magazine is assigned to the city and works out of the Police Department offices in City Hall.

The Magazine Police Department is responsible for preserving the peace, enforcing criminal and traffic laws and city ordinances, and conducting criminal investigations within the corporate limits of the City of Magazine. In March of 2022, Logan County and the City of Magazine entered into an Interlocal Agreement where the Logan County Sheriff's Office supervises and runs the Magazine Police Depart

ment. The full-time police chief position is now the full-time Magazine Sergeant position who acts as the police chief, works out of the Police Department offices in City Hall, attends City Council meetings and works with the mayor, and provides law enforcement services within the corporate boundaries of the city. A third part-time deputy is paid for by the Magazine School District and works as a School Resource Officer. Brett Chappell serves as the Magazine Police Chief, Jim Elkins serves as the part-time deputy assigned to patrol, and Jerry Holt serves as the part-time School Resource Officer.

Update 5:00pm
SWEPCO is still working on issues. The Magazine Fire Department, along with volunteers, have cleared all the city streets. Tomorrow our city workers will make a plan to help with what they can.

Update 3:30pm
SWEPCO is in town now working on the issues.

We have a few trees down around town. They will be handled ASAP. Comment below if you see anything else that needs addressed, thanks.

After our initial storm siren test on June 11, we identified a few communication and frequency adjustments that needed to be made. We are confident those updates have been completed and that the system is ready for another test.

The Magazine Fire Department will conduct another storm siren test on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 12:00 Noon.

If this test is successful and no additional adjustments are needed, the storm siren will be tested every Wednesday at 12:00 Noon as part of our regular testing schedule.

Please note: If there is any threat of severe weather in the area, the weekly test will be canceled to avoid any confusion with an actual weather emergency.

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we worked through these upgrades. These improvements will help ensure the citizens of Magazine receive timely warnings during severe weather events, making our community safer and better prepared.

Thank you for your continued support of the Magazine Fire Department and our commitment to protecting the community.

The 2026 Shop with a Cop Southside Tournament was held last Saturday, 27th. This year was our biggest tournament yet! We are incredibly thankful to all of our players and sponsors. Without the support from our community, this program is not possible. We hope to add more things and make it even bigger next year! Congratulations to our winners, and we hope everyone enjoyed the tournament!

Also would like to thank Cherokee Creek Golf Course for allowing us to host the event and for keeping the course in great shape!
