Hey Magnolia! It's Me again, Chief Wood here. It's been a busy time around town lately.
🟦A few minutes before 11 p.m. Thursday night Mr. Milton Donovan West, age 33 of the Warsaw area decided to take his Red 2014 Camaro for a stroll at 100+ mph right through the middle of Magnolia on Monk Street.
Much to Mr. West's surprise, he gained the attention of Capt. Jason Holliday & Ofc. Jose Flores who were exchanging shift change information nearby.
When the Magnolia Officers signaled for the hurried gentleman to stop through use of their blue lights & sirens, he decided it was a better idea to increase his speed to in excess of 130 mph. I'm guessing he really didn't want to talk to them.🤷🏼♂️
As a result of Mr. West's decision to run, he wrecked his Camaro in a field just South of House of Raeford on U.S. 117, just before the Brooks Quinn intersection where the stoplight is. He also sustained a minor laceration to his forehead.
Mr. West was arrested and charged with Felony Fleeing To Elude Arrest, Driving While License Revoked, Speeding, No Insurance, Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Carrying a Concealed Gun, Reckless Driving, & Driving a Motor Vehicle with No Registration.
Mr. West was issued a $5,000.⁰⁰ Secure Bond & tucked in at the Duplin County Jail.
Mr. West's impromptu decision to run from law enforcement & endanger everyone on the highway qualifies him to now & forever lose his Camaro (or what's left of it) to the State under North Carolina's "Run & Done" law.
We appreciate the quick assistance from all who helped, including Duplin County Sheriff's Office, Rose Hill P.D., North Carolina Highway Patrol, Duplin EMS, and Duplin County Communications.
If I missed anyone, you too!👍🏻
Before closing, I'd just like to say a few words of appreciation for the top notch professional staff we have here at Magnolia Police Department. Capt. Holliday & Ofc. Flores did an outstanding job as always.
What some folks don't realize is that although we are a small town, and we tend to go out of our way to be friendly & extend small town Southern Hospitality, we are still highly trained professionals. So don't get the wrong idea. If you come here with bad intentions, or threaten the safety of our citizens... we will bust your "aspirations" pretty quickly.🟦
Y'all stay safe out there!
Until next time,
~ Chief Wood
