Tropical weather update 8/31/2026 @ 7:30 PM:

Tropical Storm Edouard has now formed in the Gulf. Our forecast hasn’t changed much with this update.

We still expect Edouard to make landfall tomorrow afternoon near the Texas Louisiana border.

As it moves inland to the northwest the forecast track is just east of Montgomery County but we remain inside the cone.

Heavy rain fall is possible with this system. Expecting up to 3-5 inches east of I45 with isolated pockets of higher amounts depending on actual track and if training rain bands set up over the county.

West of I-45 looks to be from 1-3 inches possible.

At this time please pay close attention to the forecast in the morning as any overnight updates will be current then. The morning update will likely be the last before landfall.

We are not forecasted to see significant winds with this storm. This will bring much need rain to the area but we could still see flash flooding.

For that reason we are under a flood watch from 1 am Tuesday morning through 7 am Wednesday morning.

Please remain weather aware.

More updates to come as we receive them.

The fire service is a small, tight-knit family, and today, that family is grieving.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the men and women of Porter Fire Department on the heartbreaking loss of Captain Jesus Castillo after a courageous fight against cancer.

Captain Castillo was the definition of what an officer should be—dedicated, selfless, and deeply invested in the growth of the firefighters around him. His presence, guidance, and steady leadership across Montgomery County will be sorely missed by all of us who share this mission.

We are incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated Regional Technical Rescue Team serving our communities. Whether it's high-angle rope rescues, confined space operations, structural collapses, or complex trench emergencies, this specialized unit brings elite capability, equipment, and focus to incidents where standard gear just isn't enough.

Having a shared regional asset like this means smaller communities get big-city rescue capabilities, seamless teamwork across county and municipal lines, and faster response times when minutes matter most.

Our area has officially entered into a “flash drought,” and current forecasts indicate these hot, dry conditions will persist for the near future.

Here is what you need to know about our current fire risk:

Rising Fire Danger: We are currently approaching 650 on the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI)—a threshold where local wildfire activity typically spikes significantly.

Critically Dry Fuels: Heavy fuels (1000-hour fuel moisture) to our north and around the Huntsville area are reaching critical dryness levels, meaning any fire that starts can spread rapidly.

How You Can Help Keep Our Community Safe:

Avoid outdoor activities that produce sparks or open flames (welding, grinding, dragging trailer chains).

Never discard cigarette butts out of vehicle windows.

Hold off on burning yard debris until conditions improve.
