This Memorial Day, the members and staff of the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🇺🇸

Their courage, dedication, and selfless service will never be forgotten. As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, let us also take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy today.

From all of us at Magnolia Vol. Fire Company — thank you to our fallen heroes, our active military, veterans, and their families.

This EMS Week, we proudly recognize the dedicated EMS providers of the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company.

While our company was founded in 1927, Magnolia officially entered the EMS field in 1980 with the addition of its first ambulance and the start of Basic Life Support transport services for our community.

In the early days of EMS at Magnolia, crews responded to only a couple hundred ambulance calls each year. Today, our EMS division handles well over 1,700 calls annually — a true reflection of the tremendous growth of our community and the increasing demand placed on our providers.

Today, our EMS crews staff one ambulance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — providing compassionate care, rapid response, and professional service to the citizens of Magnolia and surrounding communities.

Over the years, the EMS division has evolved from a fully volunteer service into a primarily career-staffed operation due to the steady increase in call volume and demand for service. Even with that growth, our volunteer members continue to play a vital role alongside our career staff, helping ensure the community receives the highest level of care possible.

To all of our EMTs, ambulance drivers, EMS staff, and volunteers — thank you for your commitment, sacrifice, and dedication to serving others.
From 1980 to today, the mission remains the same: Serving our community with pride, compassion, and professionalism.
Happy EMS Week! 🚑💙

The 1929 AA Ford, proudly known as Engine 1, holds a special place in our history as the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company’s first engine. Equipped with a Hale pump rated at approximately 200 GPM, this piece of apparatus represents where it all began.

After being reacquired in 2016, restoration efforts kicked off, and since then, a dedicated team has worked tirelessly to bring Engine 1 back to its original glory. An incredible 90% of the work was completed in-house by a small committee led by Past Chief Charles “Buck” Doughtery—saving the company an estimated $200,000 along the way.

This past weekend, all that hard work paid off. Engine 1 made its long-awaited maiden voyage at the 3rd Annual Spring Muster hosted by the Delmar Antique Fire Apparatus Association on May 3, 2026… and brought home “Outstanding in Class”!

We couldn’t be more proud to see a piece of our history back on the road and being recognized. This is what dedication, pride, and tradition look like. 🚒

🚫🔥 IMPORTANT COMMUNITY NOTICE – OPEN BURNING BAN IN EFFECT 🔥🚫

Beginning May 1, the State of Delaware’s annual Open Burning Ban is officially in effect and will remain in place through September 30.
This seasonal ban—often referred to as “ozone season”—is designed to help improve air quality across the state. During this time, most outdoor burning is prohibited statewide.

What does this mean for you?
❌ Burning of yard waste, brush, and debris is NOT permitted
⚠️ Violations can result in fines and penalties
What IS still allowed?

✔️ Small recreational fires such as:
Campfires
Cooking fires
Fire pits / chimineas
Ceremonial fires
(Please remember these must always be done safely and responsibly.)

👨‍🚒 From the Officers & Members of the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company:
We ask all residents to follow these guidelines and help us prevent unnecessary emergencies.

If you’re unsure whether burning is permitted, please reach out to DNREC before you burn.
Stay safe, stay responsible, and as always… we’re here when you need us. 🚒💪

🚨 Busy Morning for Station 55 🚨

It was an early start for the members of the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company today.
At approximately 6:00 AM, Station 55 along with our mutual aid partners were alerted to a working house fire in the Barkers Landing section of our district. Engine 55 arrived first on scene with fire showing. Thanks to the quick actions of arriving crews, the fire was brought under control in just over 20 minutes. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The incident has been turned over to the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.

Following the incident, crews transitioned into a scheduled live fire training evolution at an acquired structure. With instruction provided by the Delaware State Fire School , firefighters from Magnolia, Camden-Wyoming Fire Company , Bowers Fire Company Inc. , Southh Bowers, and Felton Community Fire Company, Inc. participated in multiple realistic fire scenarios inside the structure. This type of hands-on training provides valuable experience that cannot be replicated in standard drills.

Crews trained for over 4 hours, with more than 30 members working together to sharpen their skills and strengthen inter-company coordination.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to: 🔥 Delaware State Fire School for providing instructors
🍽️ Mission BBQ for supplying lunch
đźš› Nichols Septic Service for their support
đźš’ Farmington Fire Company for providing coverage to our district during training

Your continued support helps us stay prepared to serve and protect our community.

🚨 Community Advisory – Training Notice 🚨

The Officers and Members of the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company would like to inform residents of an increased presence of fire department personnel, apparatus, and training activity in the 400 block of Irish Hill Road tomorrow morning through the early afternoon hours.

This activity is part of a scheduled live fire training evolution being conducted by Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, along with several of our mutual aid partners. During this time, you may notice:

Visible smoke and fire conditions from the training structure

Fire apparatus operating in the area

Increased personnel and traffic around the site

Possible temporary traffic impacts in the immediate area

There is no emergency—this is a controlled and permitted training exercise.

Live fire training is a critical component in ensuring our firefighters and apparatus operators maintain and enhance the skills needed to respond effectively to real emergencies. These evolutions are conducted under strict safety guidelines and oversight.

We ask that the public avoid the immediate training area for safety purposes and allow emergency vehicles clear access.

We appreciate your continued support and understanding as we train to better serve and protect our community. đźš’
