Fall Into MN Culture with Lake Agassiz Regional Library’s Fall Event Series
MOORHEAD, MINNESOTA - Lake Agassiz Regional Library is inviting the region to fall into Minnesota culture and history with its Fall Arts & Cultural Heritage Series, which kicks off September 1. From captivating storytelling and live music to deep dives into Minnesota and US history, this season’s Legacy Series offers something special for everyone in the community. Best of all? All events are free and open to the public, thanks in part to funding from the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund. The series will feature authors, musicians, historians, and more who contribute to the rich heritage of Minnesota, including:
Strings in Motion: The Music of Gladius (September 1-3)
Experience an electrifying, family-friendly musical performance with award-winning composer and virtuoso guitarist Gladius. inspired by both classical master Andrés Segovia and rock legend Eddie Van Halen, Gladius seamlessly blends classical and flamenco guitar with high-energy rock performance. Tracing his artistic roots to South America, his journey began at age 10 with an antique Argentine guitar and has since led to over 1,000 shows nationwide, earning him recognition as Gwinnett County Georgia's first-ever Gwinnett Superstar in 2022. Join your library for a dynamic live concert that promises to mesmerize audiences of all ages!
The Stories We Tell: Featuring "Loon Point " Author Carrie Classon (September 8-11)
Join your library for a special presentation with Carrie Classon, nationally syndicated columnist of "The Postscript" (featured in over 100 newspapers weekly) and author of the breakout northern Minnesota novel, "Loon Point." In this engaging theatrical presentation, Carrie explores how stories bring meaning to our lives and how the tales we tell can transform us in unexpected ways. Following the presentation, Carrie will host an open Q&A to answer your questions about writing, publishing, and the art of storytelling.
Intro to Kinusaiga: Japanese "Quilting Without Thread" with Bizzy Burslie (September 9-October 24)
Join Fargo-Moorhead artist Bizzy Burslie for a 2-hour hands-on workshop on Kinusaiga, the Japanese art of "quilting without thread." Learn how to press fabric scraps into grooved boards to craft beautifully textured, no-sew designs while giving old textiles new life. All supplies will be provided and the programs are appropriate for ages 12 and up.
Registration is required and opens Tuesday, August 25 at 3:30 p.m. and will be available at larl.org/kinusaiga or by calling a location near you.
Shaping the Nation: Minnesota Stories at 250 with Doug Ohman (September 14-18)
Join historian and storyteller Doug Ohman for an engaging presentation celebrating 250 years of American history. As part of a five-day, eight-location tour across the region, this captivating program explores key national milestones while highlighting the notable events, figures, and contributions of Minnesotans who helped shape the nation’s story. Don't miss this opportunity to reflect on our shared heritage and local connections to history!
"Dish & Tell" with Cookbook Author Sarah Peterson (September 20-October 29)
Join your library for a cozy visit with Minnesota author Sarah Peterson. Sarah will discuss how family recipes connect across generations and talk about the recipes and stories in her cookbook, “Dish and Tell: Recipes from the Heart.” Attendees are invited to bring their own family recipe cards or recipe boxes so we can all “dish & tell” together!
Rock Band Poster Artists of the 1990-2000s (October 10)
In the 1990s, the Art Department of Minnesota State University Moorhead was filled with students in bands that played at places like Ralph’s Corner Bar. These musicians used their art skills to make innovative posters as part of a nationwide movement that combined rock music and visual art. Join the Moorhead Public Library on October 10 at 4 p.m. for a panel featuring these artists and hear about their experiences and current art projects.
Paul Bunyan: Loggin', Legends & Lore with David Ward (October 13-16)
Step right up and join actor, storyteller, and retired educator David Ward for a lively, fast-paced journey into the legendary world of Paul Bunyan! In this fun and fact-filled performance, David brings the colorful history of the logging and lumber industry to life by recreating unforgettable characters from Paul's era, including "Ole the Big Swede" and camp cook "Hot Biscuit Slim." Come enjoy a presentation packed with exciting, outrageous tales, which is geared for elementary aged children but is open to all ages.
The History of Guitars: A Lecture Concert Featuring Markus Krueger and Friends (October 27)
Markus Krueger of the Clay County Historical Society and musicians Pat Lenertz and Friends present a concert lecture that tells the history of guitars through words, pictures, and music. There will be stops in the Ancient Middle East, 1500s Spain, 1800s Hawaii, and 1940s California. Join your library for this event, which will be held in The Centrum on the campus of Concordia College on October 27 at 7 p.m.
