After 46 years in law enforcement, including 14 incredible years here in Mahomet, Chief Mike Metzler officially retired on September 30th, 2025. 🎉

Congratulations, Chief Metzler! Thank you for your leadership, dedication, and friendship. You’ve left behind a true legacy of service that will never be forgotten. 👮‍♂️💙

On October 1st, 2025, Chief Dave Smysor stepped in as our new Chief of Police, and tonight he was officially sworn in at the Village Board meeting. The transition has been smooth, and our team is excited to continue serving and protecting our community under his leadership.

Overnight, September 30th - October 1st, there were multiple unlocked vehicles entered by the suspect between 1:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.

***Middletown Prairie Elementary School Traffic***

Mahomet Police Officers have been happy to help at Middletown Prairie Elementary during morning school traffic hours and it seems like we are getting the flow down after a couple weeks. Here a few things to think about directly from existing Mahomet Village Ordinances. (As well as IL State law)

Stopping, standing or parking is not permitted in any of the following situations:

- Within an intersection (a round about is an intersection)

- On a crosswalk

- At any place where official signs prohibit parking

- Within 20 feet of a point on a safety curb

Officers really appreciate your help in keeping traffic flowing smoothly and we hope you all enjoy the rest of the school year!
