These joint training exercises give our teams an opportunity to practice essential water rescue skills, work together, and stay prepared to respond when our community needs us.

A big thank you to our members and the Carmel FD team for putting in the time and effort to keep these skills sharp.

Last night, members of the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department responded mutual aid to Ossining for a multi-alarm structure fire.

Around 7:15 PM, our department was requested to assist with a tanker and water shuttle operations. Our members worked alongside multiple departments to help establish and maintain the water supply needed for the firefighting operation.

Crews remained on scene for several hours before clearing around 2:30 AM.

We’re proud of our members who answered the call and supported our neighboring departments through the overnight hours.

This morning at approximately 8:30am, the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department Dive Team was requested to provide mutual aid to the North Highlands Engine Co # 1 for a swift water rescue in the Town of Philipstown after heavy rainfall caused dangerous flooding.

Members of our Dive Team responded with specialized equipment and personnel to assist with the rescue operation. Working alongside North Highlands and numerous local and state agencies, crews helped bring the incident to a safe and successful conclusion.

We are grateful for the opportunity to support our neighboring departments when they call for assistance. Mutual aid is a vital part of emergency response, ensuring communities have the specialized resources they need during complex incidents.

We commend all of the responding agencies for their teamwork and professionalism, and are thankful the residents were brought to safety.

Stay safe, and remember: never drive or walk through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown.

Yesterday, members of the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department Dive Team had the opportunity to participate in the Carmel Police Department’s Summer Youth Academy at Mahopac High School.

Students got an up close look at the specialized equipment our dive team uses and learned about the training, teamwork, and preparation required for water rescue and recovery operations. Members also answered questions and shared what it takes to serve on one of the department’s specialized teams.

Thank you to the Carmel Police Department, NY for inviting us to be part of this great program and for giving local youth the opportunity to learn about the many ways first responders serve our community. We enjoyed spending the afternoon with everyone and hope we inspired the next generation of first responders!

⚠️ Weather Alert: Tornado Watch in Effect

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has placed our area under a Tornado Watch until 9:00 PM (2100 hrs).

A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes, along with severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall.

We encourage all residents to:
* Stay weather aware and monitor trusted weather sources.
* Have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.
* Review your family’s emergency plan and know where to take shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued.
* Secure outdoor items that could become airborne in strong winds.

The Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department is monitoring conditions and stands ready to respond if needed.

Please stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather. We will provide updates as additional information becomes available.

This morning, the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department responded to the area of Secor Road and Sugarbush Court for a reported transformer and wire fire.

Upon arrival, crews found live power lines down and a small brush fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the brush fire and secured the scene while the area remained energized. Power was temporarily shut off so NYSEG could safely complete repairs to the damaged lines.

The roadway has since reopened, and the scene has been cleared.

Please remember, if you encounter downed power lines, always assume they are energized. Stay well away, keep others clear of the area, and immediately notify 911.
