Good morning!
When we took over the highway department a few years ago, community involvement and culture change were very high on our priority list. The men and women of the Carmel Highway Department are truly amazing employees, professional in every sense of the word, and do their best to always provide the finest work. For 3 years, the first graders at Lakeview Elementary, led by their wonderful teachers, participate in Kindness Week. They made personalized cards for the highway department employees and brought lots of goodies! This year we were finally able to do a little something for them, and it was definitely a major highlight for us. These wonderful teachers are really showing these children from a young age what kindness does, how it can affect people, and also shows them the workers and volunteers who take care of and make this the greatest town to grow up in. Here are a few pictures and videos. Thank you to all of the first grade teachers of Lakeview Elementary and the greatest little pupils.

Good evening!!!
The Town of Carmel has issued a Snow Emergency starting 12pm tomorrow until 11pm on Monday. What this means is that unless of an emergency, we urge residents to stay off the roadways. ALL VEHICLES MUST BE OFF OF THE ROADWAY ENTIRELY, OR ARE SUBJECT TO TICKET OR TOW. All garbage pails are to be off the roadways as well, and should be kept near your home. Even if they are a few feet off the road, the snow coming off of the plow will push them over.
The National Weather Service has put us in a Winter Storm Warning, and are predicting between 12-18 inches of snow. The heaviest is supposed to start tomorrow evening well into Monday late morning, while blizzard like conditions come into play. That means winds will be very strong. Power outages are likely, due to heavy snow and winds. Please take all precautions necessary prior to tomorrow afternoon, check your generators, and also very important, check on your elderly neighbors. Let’s all work together to ensure the safety of all residents. Stay home, put a movie on, play a board game, make a snowman, let’s go old school!!
Mailboxes will be knocked down, curbs will be broken, this stuff happens in extreme weather events. It’s not intentional. Our plow trucks will be out throughout the day, all night, and until the roadways are safe for travel. Keep in mind every time the plows are sent out, we hit every single road on out routes, so nobodys road is skipped. If we experience 1-2 inches per hour and the routes take 3 hours to complete, then the first road will have 3-6 inches on it by the time they complete a round.
If you experience an emergency, please call Carmel Police Department, NY at 845-628-1300. If you have any roadway issues, call Carmel Highway at 845-628-7474. Stay safe!

Good morning!
Be careful on the roads and in your driveways and walkways this morning. There is a thin layer of ice on your untreated walkways and driveways. The roads have all been treated and we will be working on them until the busses stop running. Allow extra time when traveling this morning as there could be slick spots. Safe travels!

Good morning!
We are going to see snow showers on and off this morning. The roads may be slick in some spots, so please allow yourself extra time if you need to go out early. The temperatures are going to plummet and the wind is going to pick up, so please be careful on the roadways. Tonight, please check on your elderly neighbors, as temperatures with wind chill are supposed to be -20 at times.

Good afternoon!!
The Town of Carmel Highway Department would like to send a huge THANK YOU to Jennifer Malley, the entire First Grade teaching staff, and all of the first graders at Lakeview Elementary School. For 3 years they have taken the time to make all of the Carmel Highway Department employees personalized, hand-written cards, along with ALOT of snacks. Each card is so creative, and teaching the young kids about their town and who serves it is an amazing lesson to pass along. Thank you to all of the parents who also donated the snacks. We can’t say THANK YOU enough. It brought huge smiles to all of our faces.

Good morning!!
The snow has started!! This is going to be a loooong event. Please remember we are in a State of Emergency per NYS as well as a Snow Emergency in the Town of Carmel. Any cars parked on the roadway are subject to be towed, so please remove them and tell your neighbors, to avoid this situation.
Remove your garbage pails! There is no service today and they will be moved by the plow trucks if you dont. Stay inside, stay safe, and watch the football games later. The roads will be snow covered and slippery today, so please stay off of them. If you have an emergency, call Carmel Police Department, NY 845-628-1300. For any road related issues, call us at 845-628-7474.

Good evening!
A State of Emergency was declared this morning for New York State and we issued a Snow Emergency in the Town of Carmel. ALL VEHICLES MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE ROADWAYS PRIOR TO THE SNOW ON SUNDAY. Please bring your garbage pails all the way to your house and away from the road as they will be knocked over due to the snow rolling off the plow. Temperatures will plummet as we receive significant snowfall, making it extremely difficult to keep our roadways clear and open for Emergency Services. Please check on your neighbors, and use EXTREME caution if you must travel. The roads will be very difficult to travel on if the forecasters are correct. The Town of Carmel Police Department, NY and ourselves will be there to help. Also, do not plow snow into the roadway, push it across the roadway, or snow blow it into the roadway as this is illegal and has the potential to freeze in place after we are done cleaning it up. As always, please be safe and look out for one another!
