August 20th Update - The closure at Hickory Street will be complete tomorrow. Northbound traffic will be reopened, but southbound traffic will remain closed south of Hickory.

Additional information regarding road closures and detour routes will be posted on the project website: https://mahtomediave.com. Updates will also be mailed to property owners along the corridor.

Work will begin on Tuesday, August 11th, with the closure of Mahtomedi Ave at Hickory Street. That work is expected to take approx. 1-week. The week of August 17th, the southbound lane of Mahtomedi Ave will be closed from Hickory Street to Ash Street to accommodate Xcel’s gas main relocation work. Driveway access will be maintained throughout the project, though there may be delays as crews do their work. Xcel Energy will post the dates of closure in advance.
Questions? contact Bill Lynaugh at XCEL Energy Gas, [email protected], 651-328-4358.

XCEL Gas will begin relocating and upgrading natural gas pipes along Mahtomedi Avenue, continuing through late November. This relocation is necessary to prepare for the installation of new storm sewer and water main planned for 2027, which are part of the overall reconstruction of Mahtomedi Avenue. It is essential that the gas relocation work is completed before road construction starts to avoid any delays.

Additional information regarding road closures and detour routes will be posted on the project website: https://mahtomediave.com. Updates will also be mailed to property owners along the corridor.

"See Me" Flags Safety Program Implemented in Downtown Mahtomedi

As students head back to school, more children and families will be walking throughout our community. Help us make sure everyone knows how to use and look out for the new “See Me” flags at Stillwater Road and Glenmar Avenue.

This new initiative was created in response to parent feedback and is a partnership between the Safe Routes to School volunteer committee, Mahtomedi Community Education, the City of Mahtomedi, and Washington County.

See Me Flags Safety Program implemented in Downtown Mahtomedi

A new pedestrian safety initiative, See Me Flags, implemented in downtown Mahtomedi. In response to parent feedback and traffic, the community volunteer committee, Safe Routes to School, along with Mahtomedi Community Education, the City of Mahtomedi, and Washington County have partnered to launch See Me Flags at Stillwater Road and Glenmar Avenue.

It was brought to the group's attention how many school-age students and community members cross busy Stillwater Road at Glenmar Avenue to go back and forth to the various neighborhoods and O.H. Anderson school. Parents have witnessed traffic not stopping for pedestrians in the cross walk zone and thought we needed some alternative safety protocols put into place.

Designed to help students and families safely navigate their walk to O.H. Anderson Elementary and local neighborhoods, these high-visibility See Me Flags will be available in holders at the crosswalk for individuals and families to use.
