The Bergen County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a dedicated group of municipal volunteers trained to respond to assist at any community event. As part of the Basic CERT training volunteers take classroom training in Incident Command, Terrorism, Disaster Psychology, Light Search and Rescue, Basic First Aid, Fire Safety and Response, and Disaster Preparedness. Additionally the course o

ffers practical training in Fire and EMS activity. Many of our CERT members take advantage of our monthly training program which include topics such as Shelter Operations, Radio Communications, Advanced First Aid, ICS 200, Traffic and Crowd Control to name a few. CERT, not everyone will be able to perform every task, but, there is a task for everyone. Why not join today.

It is with deep sadness that the Rochelle Park CERT team announce the passing of long time member Mike Levitzke.

Mike, affectionately known around our town as Mr. Mike, was our Midland School Shelter liaison. Mike, was always ready to lend a hand whenever and wherever needed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike’s family during this difficult time.

Several of our members took time out of their day to make phone calls to check on the welfare of some of our residents. We were happy to hear that the residents were coping well during this pandemic, and they were all very thankful to us for checking in on them. We told them we will be doing periodic checks just to make sure everyone stays well.

FROM NORTH ARLINGTON CERT:

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of CERT Member Bob Hogan last night at approximately 9pm.

Bob was one of the original founding member of NA CERT dating back to our 2011 inception. Those that knew Bob know that there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for our team and was extremely generous with charities near to his heart even though sometime it was above his means. Bob volunteered with 11th Hour Animal Rescue by donating his time at their adoption location at the Pet Smart in Kearny, NJ.

Given the pandemic situation I do not believe there will be any arrangements and I ask that we all keep Bob’s memory in our thoughts and prayers. I recommend those wishing to honor Bob do so by donating in his name C/O NA CERT to the charities that were near to him.

FROM ROCHELLE PARK CERT:

Seems the weather Gods have tried to make it difficult for our CERT team to deliver the meals for some of our residents. But once again, our members braved the elements this morning to ensure that our Seniors did in fact, receive their weekly meals. We can’t thank Samantha Sagun Dawn Copeland-Reinhardt and Dawn Domico enough for getting out there today. As one of them said, “this is what we’ve signed up for”.
“ We congratulate them for their dedication and commitment - especially on a day when no one wants to be out in this weather” OEM Director Pete Donatello said.
