Committee to Elect Danny Lee Kiser

Committee to Elect Danny Lee Kiser Danny Lee Kiser - "A Taxpayer's Voice" My name is Danny Lee Kiser and I am running for a seat on the Maiden Town Council in the November 2019 general elections.

I am motivated to run for this seat because I grew up in Maiden. For many years, I was a member of the fire department. I started my law enforcement journey as a reserve officer with Maiden Police Department, under the command of Chief Ray Walker. I have a sense of pride in our little town. I am concerned for the future of our downtown area. I can vividly recall going "to town" with my Dad on Satu

rday mornings. We would visit Piedmont Hardware, the "Dime Store", Jack Early's Western Auto Store and Campbell's Drug Store. My first gun, a Davidson Arms .410 double barrel came from the Western Auto, and I still have it. Sure, times have changed. People go to other towns and areas to shop. Or they do it online, maybe on their handheld device as they pass through Downtown Maiden. We have several buildings that are in disrepair, some in very bad shape. I can remember getting a poorboy from Dave Sigmon's Restaurant back in the late sixties & early seventies. Later I bought auto parts when the NAPA store occupied the building. And I bought many a soda, pack of nabs and gallons of gas from the "U-Filler-Up". But look at them now. There are other buildings that could be saved and turned into a productive piece of real estate. There are some houses that are standing in ruins. If we expect people to want to come to our town, we must improved the eye appeal. I have heard some say that Maiden is no longer a residential town, that we are an industrial and commercial town, because of Apple, GKN & Ethan Allen. But folks, we are still a residential town, and will always be, as long as we have residents that live in Maiden and want to call it home. I will post more as time goes on. I was recently told, should I be elected, that I should not be disruptive, in dealing with how things are currently done. As far as 'disruptive', I am not sure in what context that description was used. But I will tell everyone this - I am well versed in the Council-Manager form of government. I fully realize that as a council member, I do not have anything to do with the actual, day to day, down in the trenches workings of the town. The Town Manger attends to that. But to be an effective council member, I must know why we are spending money on projects, why the department heads are asking for money in the budget and to be sure that all requests and projects been fully vetted, as far as need, practicality and feasibility are concerned.

I gave it my best shot, but it was just not enough. I did make some new friends while at the voting pole. And I got to see some people who I do not see often. Thanks to all of my loyal supporters. And remember, Max is our mayor and we all must support him. Thanks again and God Bless each of you who voted for me and helped in my campaign.

I have been asked by a good many people, why I want to be Mayor, since I am retired from public service. I still have a desire to help whenever and wherever I can. I know this town and I know a bunch of the residents. The Mayor is the face of the town and more often than not, is the person who residents come to when they have a problem, question or concern. Depending on the nature of their inquiry, the Mayor will either answer the question or direct them to the town manager. Since I am retired, I will be available most all of the time to meet and interact with the public. I would like to add, that I have no complaints with our current Mayor. I think that since I have worked in the public service field just about my entire adult life, I will do a great job as Mayor.

Most people on my page know me. But for those who don’t, I will introduce myself. My name is Danny Lee Kiser. Until 1999, I was a lifelong resident of Maiden. I moved to the North Carolina coast to become a firefighter/paramedic on Bald Head Island.

I retired on July 1, 2009 at the rank Captain, but continued to live on Oak Island until 2018, moving back home. While living on Oak Island, I served on the fire department and weas Assistant Fire Chief. I also served a four-year term on the Oak Island Town Council.

I graduated from Maiden High School in 1977. I am a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church and have been a member of Maiden Masonic Lodge 592 for 45 years. Before moving to the coast, I was employed with Catawba County Emergency Medical Service, attending Paramedic school at CVCC in 1980/1981. I was promoted to captain in 1982, serving as a shift supervisor for twelve years.

I was a member of Maiden Rescue Squad and Maiden Fire Department. I served as Training Captain for five years. I was a reserve police office on Maiden police Department for and was a reserve deputy for Catawba County Sheriff’s Department.

I am currently a member of the Sheriff’s Office Search Team. I also am active in HAM radio and serve on NC Emergency Management Western Branch Incident Management Team as a Planning Section Chief. For a short time, I was appointed as a medical examiner for the NC Office of Chief Medical Examiner. I took a leave from that position due to a foot injury and knee replacement surgery.

I ran for a seat on Maiden Town Council in 2019, 2021 and 2023. I was unsuccessful in all three elections. As you can see, public service has been a big part of my life. I would like to continue serving the public as Mayor of Maiden.

This is a totally unsolicited post from someone who I have had the pleasure of doing business with over the past five years - Post this to your election page: My name is Heath Hannon and unfortunately I’m not a resident of the beautiful town of Maiden, I’m stuck in Charlotte for the next few years under poor leadership. However I do know correct leadership and I support Danny Lee Kiser because I have done business with him multiple times over the last five years and I find him to be an ethical, respectful and responsible person. In doing business, I believe that Danny will do what is right for the community. I trust Danny as a prior civil servant and a man who holds his word as his bond. If you have family and faith based values, vote Danny Lee Kiser. If not, enjoy higher taxes and become more like Charlotte.
