Another successful conference in the books! We want to give a special thank you to all who joined us for the 42nd annual Florida Literacy Conference.

We had a great time getting together with adult education, literacy, and ESOL practitioners from all over Florida to network and share ideas and practices. We also unveiled the 2026 adult learner essay book, Journeys in Learning, and had the opportunity to hear some of the authors published in it share their inspiring stories! Take a look at the book here:

🎉 FLC is pleased to announce our closing keynote speaker for the 2026 Florida Literacy Conference: Talia Cotton! ⬇️
Talia R. Cotton turned a high school setback into a lifelong commitment to learning. After earning her GED through Leon County Schools adult education, she went on to complete her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Florida A&M University and, in 2026, her Doctorate in Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies from Florida State University.

As an experienced high school and adult educator, Talia will share her journey from GED to EdD, challenging audiences to rethink what success looks like and to recognize that, with the right support, effort, and belief, any adult learner can transform their future.

📚 Join us for the Florida Literacy Conference this May to hear more about Talia's journey and work!

Partners Needed for Learner Return on Investment (ROI) Study 📢

The Evidence-Based Adult Education System (E-BAES) research team is seeking programs (and their adult learners) to participate in a national research study aimed at helping the field understand the relationship between learners’ investment in participating in adult foundational education and the “return” they get for that investment. Programs serving ABE Levels 1–4 are invited to participate through a brief survey, with selected sites later invited to contribute learner feedback and program data. Participants receive a summary of findings to inform improvement, helping strengthen outcomes and demonstrate the impact of adult education.
