After her son received a heart transplant just before his 16th birthday, Mary Albers experienced the life-changing impact of organ donation firsthand.

Having received a letter from her son's donor family, she understands the profound connection that can exist between donor and recipient families.

“Being able to connect with this child’s mother, who was grieving and was given so much hope through seeing my son thrive, is something I will never forget and is what drives me every day.”

For Mary Albers, Vice President of both OurLegacy and the AdventHealth Transplant Institute, this mission is deeply personal. She honors her son's donor hero and donor family every day, both at home and at work.

Hello to OurLegacy Volunteers!

We hope you are all doing well. Thank you for your continued support and for the time you give to helping raise awareness about organ and tissue donation. Your involvement and dedication are deeply valued.

We want to make it easier for you to stay informed, register for upcoming events, and find ways to get involved. To streamline communication and the RSVP process, VolunteerHub will now be our primary platform for volunteer opportunities and event registration. Going forward, all volunteer event RSVPs will be managed through VolunteerHub rather than Facebook. As part of this transition, the Volunteers4Life page will also be closing.

You can continue to stay connected with OurLegacy through our main page, Instagram, and website for news and updates, while VolunteerHub will be your primary resource for volunteer-specific information, event registration, and opportunities to participate.

We appreciate all that you do to support the mission of organ and tissue donation and look forward to continuing to connect with you through VolunteerHub and at upcoming OurLegacy events.

Here is the Volunteer Hub link to sign up for our upcoming Volunteer Day on Thursday, September 3rd!

On Grief Awareness Day, we honor the families and friends of donor heroes who find ways to carry their loved ones with them each day. Grief often lives in the details of everyday life: a favorite song playing unexpectedly, a shared tradition carried forward, a familiar laugh remembered in a quiet moment. Their impact remains woven into the lives they touched.

May we continue to speak their names, share their stories, and celebrate the unique details that make their legacy unforgettable.

For more resources around grief support, we encourage you to visit our Family Resources page through the link in our bio.

“As a mom, it was important to me to be there for her in some way.”
-Eshma Harry, former Director of Hospital Services, now Director of Community Impact

At the heart of our work is something deeply personal: the understanding that every donor, every family, and every life touched by donation could be our own.
Our team sees themselves, their loved ones, and their own stories reflected in the families we serve.

“I saw the beautiful care that this hospital was taking of this young child.”

OurLegacy’s Director of Community Impact, Eshma Harry, reflects on a particular case she will never forget. We often imagine our own parents, children, siblings, or friends in the stories we encounter each day. It's a perspective that reminds us to lead with empathy, honor every donor's legacy, and support families with the care and respect they deserve.
