When it was no longer safe at home, Jana left with her children and very little else.
For a time, her family stayed in a hotel and in their car. She reached out to 211, kept following up, and didn’t stop until she secured emergency shelter. Eventually, she was referred to one of our housing stability managers, who quickly helped move her family into permanent housing. Jana then went on to complete a job training program, volunteered in her community, and was recently offered full-time employment.
Even in the hardest moments, Jana stayed hopeful - reminding herself that her faith would carry her through difficult times, and that "there is always hope."
Today, her children are thriving in their middle and high schools. One is planning to graduate high school this year, and another feels less anxious now that he has his own room where he has plenty of time and space to decompress.
Having a home means even more to Jana and her family as the holidays approach. Back when they were staying in the shelter, Jana shared one wish: to cook for her children during the holidays. Now, she has a kitchen of her own.
