While the results are not what we hoped for, thank you to each and every one of you that supported us during this election season. It is more important than ever that we stay involved and hold the incoming elected officials accountable. While it is a difficult to see the why behind this tonight, we will continue working to serve the township. We hope to see you next Tuesday at the Annual Town Meeting.

These are your Makanda Township Republican candidates. Individuals have been gathering around Sara's dining room table for over a year praying, sharing meals, and preparing for this election. Each gathering begins with prayer asking for wisdom for the Township and how to use the candidates' strengths to glorify Him. The sustenance of Sara's homemade "crack cookies," aka great-grandma's applesauce cookies, are a favorite among those that sit at this table. As the election is in two days, the candidates are making last minute preparations to encourage citizens to vote and ensure a fair election. A proud lifelong resident of Makanda, Gary is committed to continuing his family’s legacy of public service. With 32 years experience as Township Trustee, Gary has always prioritized the safety, growth, and well-being of the community. He’s played a key role in building strong infrastructure and ensuring fiscal responsibility.

When questions such as, "Who responds to fires in the middle of the night?" are asked by current trustees during board meetings, it highlights a lack of understanding of the fire service. Those familiar with the fire service know that when the tones go off, first responders drop everything and respond, regardless of the time or day. Gary’s family has firsthand experience with this commitment—his early years in the Makanda Township Fire Department often meant running out of the house, dinner plate in hand, to respond to a call. The constant sound of a pager going off at 3 a.m. is a familiar reality for public service families, and children often witness parents leaving during important moments, such as a ball game or recital, to answer the call.

Gary strongly believes that the Makanda Township Fire Department is a critical asset to the community. With his extensive experience and understanding of the fire service, he is uniquely positioned to advocate for the needs of the department as a trustee.
