New guidance from the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education regarding school reopening for 5 days a week has just been released. The deadlines for reopening are posted below.

This guidance also also details the waiver process. Schools will be allowed to file for a waiver, but they must ACTIVELY DEMONSTRATE why a waiver should be granted.

There will be rapid response teams dispatched to help districts deal with distancing issues and HVAC issues should they be severe in nature so that they will be able to go to 5 days within a two week period under most circumstances. There will be no blanket waivers issued (I.E. We'll go back full time starting in the fall!) and waivers will only be extended beyond two weeks in extraordinary circumstances.

Hybrid will no longer be an option for districts. REMOTE LEARNING WILL CONTINUE TO BE AN OPTION FOR PARENTS WHO ARE NOT YET COMFORTABLE RETURNING TO SCHOOL.

All districts will be REQUIRED to survey parents and families asking what parents want to do and submit this with the waiver request.

Parents ABSOLUTELY MUST MOBILIZE to ensure that families are filling out these surveys to ensure their voices are heard. They will not just be taking the word of the district when it comes to what the community wants. This was intentionally built in to ensure that the voices of parents and families are heard in this process and politics is removed.

Again, parents will retain the right to keep their child in a remote option if they are not comfortable with reopening.
