PSA: Active Investigation

On June 2, 2026, during the early morning hours, the Malden Police Department assisted the Medford Police Department and Massachusetts State Police with an investigation that originated outside the City of Malden.

As a result of that investigation, at least one juvenile was taken into custody. The incident concluded in a motor vehicle crash in the area of Medford Street and James Street in Malden.

Because this remains an active investigation and is being led by outside agencies, members of the media are asked to direct any questions to the Massachusetts State Police or the Medford Police Department.

At this time, there is no information to suggest any ongoing threat to public safety related to this incident within the City of Malden.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Public Safety Advisory

This afternoon, the Malden Police Department assisted outside law enforcement agencies with an active criminal investigation that originated outside the City of Malden.

As part of that investigation, outside agencies were following a vehicle connected to their case and requested assistance from Malden officers after the vehicle entered Malden. The operator of the vehicle was reportedly wanted on outstanding warrants.

Malden officers responded to the area of Main Street and Bickford Road to assist. During the attempted stop, the operator entered the vehicle after noticing a marked Malden cruiser and fled the area, striking an unmarked cruiser from an outside agency. A uniformed Malden officer had exited his cruiser to assist and was nearly struck by the fleeing vehicle.

The vehicle continued to flee and was later abandoned in another city. The operator and passenger reportedly fled on foot.

At this time, there is no information to suggest an ongoing threat to public safety. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact law enforcement.

Because this remains an active and ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time.

A few officers. A lot of little ducklings. And one important mission.

Today, members of the Malden Police Traffic Unit and Malden Detectives were proud to help the children of Rockland Montessori Academy safely make their annual walk to and from Fellsmere Pond for the beloved “Make Way for Ducklings” event.

For us, community policing is not always about lights and sirens. Sometimes it’s about slowing traffic, holding crosswalks, waving to excited kids, and helping create memories they’ll carry for years.

Safe to say… the ducklings were well protected today.

Last week, Mayor Gary Christenson presented Ofc. George Lopez with a citation in recognition of his lifesaving actions while off-duty in the City of Lynn, where he helped save the life of a 15-year-old attending a sporting event.

Well-deserved recognition, and a reminder that while the uniform may come off, the values behind it never do.

Service. Instinct. Duty to others.

That doesn’t end at the end of a shift.

Memorial Day is not about barbecues, long weekends, or the unofficial start of summer.

It is about sacrifice.

It is about the men and women who left behind families, futures, birthdays, holidays, and ordinary moments... and never came home.

In cities like Malden, Memorial Day matters because our community has always answered the call to serve. From generation to generation, families from this city have worn the uniform of our nation, stood in harm’s way, and carried the weight of protecting others, often at an unimaginable cost.

At the Malden Police Department, we understand that service comes with sacrifice. While today is not about us, we recognize and honor those who gave everything in defense of this country and the freedoms we sometimes take for granted.

As you spend time with family this weekend, take a moment to remember those whose families were left with only memories.

Some gave years of service.
Others gave their entire future.

They are the reason we gather.
They are the reason we remember.

From all of us at the Malden Police Department, we honor the fallen, support the families they left behind, and promise that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Freedom has a price.
Memorial Day is dedicated to those who paid it in full.

Hooked on Community

This morning, officers from the Malden Police Department and Melrose Police Department stopped by Pine Banks Park to spend time with families during the Malden & Melrose 2026 Fishing Derby.

The annual event brought together young anglers from both communities for a day of fishing, learning, and a little friendly competition. From baiting hooks to celebrating the catch of the day, there was no shortage of smiles along the shoreline.

One officer arrived especially prepared, sporting water boots. In law enforcement, we believe in being ready for anything. Whether it is a call for service or the possibility of a trophy fish getting away, proper footwear matters.

Thank you to the Malden Recreation Department, the City of Melrose, and all of the volunteers who helped make this event such a success. It was a great day for kids, families, and community partnership.

A big thank you to East Cambridge Savings Bank, represented by Ana Brito, for dropping off several boxes of pizza for the officers working today’s shift.

It was a very generous gesture and greatly appreciated by everyone.

What made it even better was the timing. As I walked through the building to greet Ana, everyone was focused and all business. But the moment I opened the door and the smell of freshly cooked pepperoni began drifting through the first floor, heads started turning, eyes widened, and concentration levels noticeably dropped.

It is amazing how quickly the scent of pizza can become an unofficial roll call.

Thank you again, Ana and East Cambridge Savings Bank, for your continued support of the Malden Police Department and the community.

Gestures like this mean a great deal to the men and women working to keep our community safe.

Stay safe and be well, Malden!
