A state-issued ID is more than a card; it’s a gateway to housing, employment, healthcare, benefits, and financial stability.
For many people experiencing homelessness, obtaining an ID can be nearly impossible due to documentation requirements and fees. The bill (H.3750/S.2399) would help remove these barriers by creating fee waivers and expanding acceptable proof of residency for youth and adults experiencing homelessness.
At Housing Families, we’ve seen firsthand how the lack of a photo ID can delay or even prevent access to critical resources. Help ensure that everyone has access to the identification they need to secure housing, access services, and build stability.

Today, our offices are closed in observance of Juneteenth.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is both a celebration and a reminder that the pursuit of freedom, equity, and opportunity continues. As we reflect on this history, we also recognize the importance of ensuring that all people have access to the resources and opportunities that allow individuals and families to thrive.

At Housing Families, that includes advancing housing justice and expanding access to safe, stable, and affordable housing. We remain committed to building communities where everyone can live with dignity and opportunity.

For many families, back-to-school shopping can be a significant financial burden, sometimes leaving families choosing between preparing their child for school and paying for essentials like housing and rent.

That is why each year, the Housing Families community provides over 500 backpacks filled with school supplies to children and teens experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Help us ensure every student starts the year prepared and confident.

A big thank you to the Point32Health team for spending the day with us at Housing Families! 💙

Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to organize and clean community spaces at EnrichEd and also assembled essential supplies for shelter guests. Having volunteer support allows us our staff to spend more time serving our clients.

We are grateful to the Point32Health team for their enthusiasm, hard work, and commitment to giving back to the community.

🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍⚧️

This month and every month, we celebrate the joy, strength, and contributions of LGBTQIA+ people in our communities and within the Housing Families family.

Pride is a celebration of authenticity, belonging, and love. It's also an opportunity to recognize that many LGBTQIA+ individuals still face huge barriers accessing safe, stable housing and other essential supports.

At Housing Families, we're proud to stand alongside our LGBTQIA+ clients, staff, volunteers, and supporters as we continue building communities where everyone is welcomed, valued, and able to thrive.

Happy Pride! 🌈

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. 💙

Mental health is deeply connected to housing stability, community, and feeling supported. Through programs like EnrichEd and CareCollective, we create spaces for children, adults, and families to heal, connect, and grow.

From therapeutic afterschool programming to on-staff mental health clinicians to wellness-centered creative expression to therapeutic office hours at our Individual Shelter, these programs help families build confidence, connection, and stability.

As we celebrate 40 years, we invite you to make a $40 gift to support programs like these and families across our community: housingfamilies.org/donate
