I am grateful to receive this incredible endorsement today from local environmental activist, Patt Healy.

Dear Neighbors,

I write as Co-Founder of the Malibu Coalition for Slow Growth, a thirty-one-year-old organization that is dedicated to working for the preservation of Malibu’s small town character, natural environment and rural ambiance.

We are proud to support Bill Sampson and Ryan Embree for Malibu City Council. In looking over the field of candidates they are the two candidates that have the maturity, experience and best qualifications to serve on the Council. They are passionate in protecting the Malibu we all love.

They will allow development that meets the land use policies and ordinances that are in place and will support variances from these codes only when truly needed. For far too long the City Council has looked the other way, and allowed speculators to develop in a manner that doesn’t meet our codes by giving out variances like Halloween candy.

This behavior has not served the best interests of the residents. The Council approved commercial establishments which are too large for the land they occupy and hence do not meet the code parking requirements. The result is gridlock along PCH and in the Civic Center making it difficult for residents to find parking and move around these parts of the city.

Both Ryan and Bill are dedicated to putting residents’ needs over that of developers. For far too long, it has been the other way around resulting in the gradual destruction of Malibu’s Quality of Life.

Please vote for Bill Sampson and Ryan Embee who will preserve all that is so very special about Malibu.

CALTRANS' proposed freeway through Malibu Canyon with its massive interchange obliterating the civic center; another noble "fight" saved and preserved Malibu from the State creating an environmental catastrophe. I will continue to protect Malibu by representing you on Malibu City Council to prevent over-development and ensure residents' needs come first.

Had a great time today in Big Rock meeting the wonderful neighbors. We talked about preserving Malibu from overdevelopment, wildfire safety, dead tree removal, brush clearance, and keeping our streets safe, etc.

ACCOUNTABILITY IN GOVERNMENT

RESIDENTS FIRST

I will represent YOU, the residents, on Malibu City Council – NOT special interests and NOT developers. Malibu has been my home for over 30 years. I envision a Malibu Community Center near Point Dume that will bring families together for learning, sports, and the arts. Soon $16 million funding will be available to construct a second Library if the City of Malibu chooses.

I’ve attended school, bought a home, started a business, and supported the City of Malibu since its 1991 incorporation.

I’ve served 8 City Councils by appointment to both Emergency Preparedness and Civic Center Way Task Forces, 8 years’ to Transportation Study Group (co-chair), and 7 years’ to Public Safety Commission (chair) to improve safety for residents and substantive improvements to City streets and PCH. I attended over 1,000 Malibu Council, Commission, and City meetings and bring a track record of getting things done -- combined with institutional knowledge and historical perspective -- to hit the ground running.

The City’s Mission and Vision Statements of the General Plan are the guiding principles to reasoned decision making for our future. My experience will help preserve and protect our environment and the special character of the City of Malibu.
