🚧 Palisades Fire Recovery Road Closures | Aug. 31–Sept. 6

Drivers can expect intermittent lane closures on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and Topanga Canyon Blvd. (SR-27) as recovery and repair work continues.

Labor Day: No lane closures on PCH or Topanga Canyon Blvd. from 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7.

📍 PCH
🕘 9 a.m.–3 p.m. weekdays: Intermittent lane closures near Las Flores Canyon Road and Sunset Blvd.
➡️ Right-turn lane from PCH onto Rambla Pacifico St. will be closed as needed.
🚗 Near Pena Road–Tuna Canyon Road: Southbound traffic may be reduced to one lane for retaining wall work.

📍 Topanga Canyon Blvd. (SR-27)
🌙 10 p.m.–6 a.m., Monday–Thursday: One-lane traffic control between Entrado and PCH for guardrail and shoulder work.
🐢 15 mph speed limit through the Caltrans work zone.

⚠️ Closures are weather-dependent and may change. Expect delays, use alternate routes when possible, and slow down in work zones. Fines can be doubled.

The Malibu Farmers Market is returning to its longtime home!

Join the Farmers Market this Sunday, August 30, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Los Angeles County lot at Malibu Library on Civic Center Way for a great day of fresh produce, local vendors, and community connection.

The City was pleased to host the Farmers Market at the City Hall parking lot last Sunday to ensure the community would have a market while arrangements were finalized. Since then, the City has worked closely with the Cornucopia Foundation, Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath and her team, and the Santa Monica College to return the Market to the County lot.

Thank you to Malibu Farmers' Market - Cornucopia Foundation and founder Debra Bianco for working with the City and the County to keep the Farmers Market going and bringing it back to its longtime home. We look forward to seeing everyone Sunday!

City of Malibu Announces 2026/2027 General Fund Grant Recipients

The City of Malibu has announced the recipients of its 2026/2027 General Fund Grant Program, supporting local nonprofit organizations whose work benefits the Malibu community. The City designated $150,000 for this year’s program.

“This excellent program, and the long list of worthy causes by and for Malibu demonstrates our community’s charitable, compassionate character, which is something all of Malibu can be proud of,” Mayor Bruce Silverstein said.

At its regular meeting on Monday, August 24, the City Council recognized Sheriff’s Volunteer on Patrol (VOP) Bill Melcher for his role in helping identify and apprehend a suspected drunk driver on Pacific Coast Highway earlier this month. His quick action and situational awareness helped remove an impaired driver from Malibu’s main thoroughfare, potentially preventing a serious incident. MYTH vs. FACT: City of Malibu’s PCH Speed Safety System

When a new safety program is introduced, questions are natural. As Malibu launches its PCH Speed Safety System, we’re sharing facts about how the program works and what drivers can expect. In late September 2026, the 60-day warning period begins. In late November 2026, citations will be issued.

❌ MYTH: This is an Automatic License Plate Reader, or a Flock system, that will conduct surveillance of the public.
✅ FACT: Our system is very different. The automated speed citation system ONLY issues speeding tickets and does not record anything UNTIL it is triggered by a vehicle going at least 11 MPH over the speed limit. ALPR systems and Flock scan license plates widely for criminal investigations.

❌ MYTH: The City is watching where I drive.
✅ FACT: Only vehicles going at least 11 MPH over the posted speed limit activate the system and are recorded only to issue a speeding citation.

❌ MYTH: The system is violating my privacy; it uses facial recognition.
✅ FACT: The system does not use facial recognition. If a violation is measured, an image of the rear license plate of the speeding vehicle is taken. Otherwise, no images are taken.

❌ MYTH: The system is designed to generate as many citations as possible to generate revenue for the City.
✅ FACT: The goal is to reduce dangerous speeding, prevent crashes, save lives and make PCH safer for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, commuters and visitors — not generate revenue. All revenue generated can only go toward covering system costs and PCH safety measures.

❌ MYTH: Drivers’ information will be publicly available.
✅ FACT: Strong privacy protections apply to information collected by the system.

The City’s Public Information & Education campaign will continue through the launch.

Expect delays and changing traffic patterns. Slow down, watch for workers and work vehicles, and remember fines may be doubled in construction zones.

• Las Flores Canyon Rd to Sunset Blvd: Weekdays, 9AM–3PM as needed for creek cleanup, drainage and slope repairs. Rambla Pacifico right-turn lane closed.
• Las Flores Canyon Rd: SCE work Sun, Aug 23, 9PM–6AM. Northbound PCH reduced to one lane for about one mile.
• Big Rock Dr: SCE work Sun, Aug 23, 9PM–6AM. Northbound PCH reduced to one lane for about one mile.
• Pena Rd to Tuna Canyon Rd: 9AM–3PM as needed. Southbound PCH reduced to one lane for retaining wall work.
• Sunset Blvd to Porto Marina Way: 9PM–6AM Mon–Fri nights. Northbound PCH fully closed; both directions use southbound lanes.

🚦 Topanga Canyon Blvd
• Work zone speed limit: 15 mph.
• Wed, 9AM–3PM: Intermittent one-lane traffic with flaggers for temporary paving.
• Fri, Aug 28, 9PM–11:59PM: One-lane traffic with flaggers.
• Fri, Aug 28, 11:59PM–Sat, Aug 29, 8AM: FULL CLOSURE from PCH to Grand View Dr.
• Mon–Fri nights, 10PM–6AM: One-lane traffic between Cezanne Ave and PCH for guardrail and shoulder work.
