***Update to MMS investigation***
On 4/23/26, the male described in the previous post was located at the Red Roof Inn. A search of the room resulted in the uncovering of suspicious notes and sketches. The sketches were crude, but at the time they were discovered, were thought to possibly represent the MMS. One of the notes contained the phrase 'clothing made no noise'. HSI ran an identification check and received a possible AKA/Alias hit. We believed it was possible that the male was not who he was saying he was and that he was possibly testing infiltration tactics. Seized as evidence were a cell phone, laptop, and two external hard drives. The male was transported to the police station for further questioning and to confirm his ID.
When this new information came to light, the school was evacuated as a precaution. There was no threat of any kind articulated by the male. The male did not have a map or blueprints of the middle school or any other building. He did not have weapons or anything else that was dangerous. He was only inside the school one time.
During questioning and after the evacuation, the building was searched again, room by room, and again nothing unusual was located. The male was cooperative during questioning, and every part of his story was verified to be truthful through investigation. The male was in the area because he was hired by a company that trains new employees in Malone. He was going to be working for said company out of state. The AKA/Alias hit was eliminated as a lead, and it was therefore determined the male was in fact who he said he was. An analysis of the laptop, cellphone, and external hard drives was conducted and same revealed no criminal intent. No unlawful or concerning content was located on any of the electronic devices.
On the 22nd, when the male made entry into the building, the door was left unlocked. There were signs indicating which door to use to enter the building as is the case when events are being held at school buildings. The male was encountered multiple times while inside the school, but was not told to leave until more than 2 hours later. During questioning, the male stated that he believed the building was open to the public because of the fact that it was unlocked with signs indicating where to enter. He stated that he had nothing to do at the time and wanted to admire the architecture of the building. The male has been cleared of any wrongdoing and so his name will not be released.
We would like to thank the NYSP - BCI, CSU, FIU, and CCU, FBI - JTTF, HSI, USBP, FSCO, and NCCAC for their assistance in this investigation.
