And, congratulations to all of our scouts, as well as the family and friends who have supported them, and to those in Malvern Troop 77, 76G, and Pack 7 who joined us!

In April, both Philmont crews hiked another beautiful stretch of the (over 1️⃣8️⃣ miles) beginning at in south-central Pennsylvania, continuing through dense hardwood of , and climbing to several rewarding ridge views before crossing the PA-MD state line and ending at .

This trip was our most ambitious thru-hike experience yet, meaning scouts needed to carry all of their water and trail meals for the full weekend in addition to crew and personal gear. We were ready and spirits were high as we stepped off at Caledonia ...
..and then it rained ☔️. And it was cold. And the trail was, as expected, rocky 🪨. The group persevered and made it the full 13.2 miles to the Deer Lick Shelters, where we planned to camp ⛺️ that evening.

The next day, we continued our hike with much better weather for an additional 5+ miles and crossed the MD border right before closing our trek.

Just a month to go until the at !

“Neither snow, nor fog, nor rain, nor cold shall keep us for our appointed shakedown hikes 🥾!”

Earlier this month. our Philmont crews stayed at the campground and took in some amazing sights and sounds as they traversed the with fully weighted packs.

The first day, we powered through for 1️⃣3️⃣ miles, at times hiking through ankle-deep snow ❄️ and climbing over many fallen trees 🪾 crossing the trail as we hiked along the Delaware River listening to the cruching of frozen ice chunks colliding and a peaceful waterfall fueld by snowmelt. We also had the opportunity to watch a pair of bald eagles 🦅 along the river.

Dinner on consisted of a delicious beef stew on our backpacking stoves cooked while utlizing the Philmont method that we hope tasted as good as most of the food we get while we are out there in June.

We woke up early Sunday morning, and hopped back on the trail for another 5️⃣ miles passing some beaver 🦫 dens and again hiking through some ankle deep snow and even some ice that allowed us to explore just how waterproof our boots might actually be.

All-in-all 1️⃣8️⃣ miles hiked made for an excellent prep hike!
