In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea has lived on here too since May 2025 when the Mammoth Lakes Friends of the Library partnered with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Every month, more than 200 children in Mono County find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Thank you, Dolly. We will always love you.

We’re temporarily closing the Makerspace from Monday, August 31 through Friday, September 4 while we reorganize, refresh, and make some exciting upgrades to the space. 🛠️✨

We’ll reopen on Tuesday, September 8 — we can’t wait to welcome you back!

Participants are invited to the Ellie Randol Room of the Mammoth Lakes Library between 10 AM and 1 PM for a final, in-library Reading Cafe event. Enjoy this cozy reading space and READ to check off boxes in your Summer Reading Challenge passport. Donuts provided by Mammoth Coffee Roasting Co. and hot chocolate provided by the library system! 😋
