🚗 Tioga Pass reopens Friday, May 15 at 8:00 AM!

Great news for Mono County and the Eastern Sierra: all three major passes are expected to be open for Memorial Day weekend (Tioga, Sonora, and Monitor).

📣 Local businesses: now’s the time to update your hours, post on social media, and help spread the word!

⚠️ Please help visitors prepare:
Reminder that no vehicle reservations are required this year, but visitors can and should pay their entrance fee online in advance (instead of at the gate). https://www.recreation.gov/sitepass/74296

Limited services will be available along Tioga Road. Encourage travelers to bring food, water, and plenty of gas. Vault and portable toilets will be available, but no drinking water or other services.

🚴 Bonus: Tioga Road will be open to bikes on Thursday, May 14 (watch for administrative vehicles), offering the rare chance to ride car-free through Yosemite to places like Tuolumne Meadows, Tenaya Lake, and Olmsted Point. Another amazing "event" to promote.

Big thanks to all the crews working hard to make this reopening possible. Yosemite National Park Caltrans District 9

On the very first day our Bridgeport inspection station opened, the first boat through had quagga mussels.

It had already been inspected and decontaminated by NDOW. They got most of them—probably 98%—but a few were still there.

That’s how hard this is. These invasive species are incredibly difficult to find and fully remove, and even with strong programs, human error happens.

The takeaway isn’t discouraging - it’s clarifying: prevention only works if we all stay vigilant and do our very best, every time.

To our residents and visitors: thank you. We know some of you are going through inspection (and even decontamination) more than once. We know gas is expensive, and stations aren’t always in the most convenient locations. We know the snow and rain in the forecast is going to make matters worse.

This effort only works because of you. Truly. It’s a monumental team effort. And after the effort, we hope you enjoy the reward of amazing times on our incredible Eastern Sierra waters.

We’re working hard to improve and expand the program. Please check EasternSierraWID.com often for inspection station locations and hours, along with lots of info and FAQs.
