🌧️🍂 A Cleaner Storm Drain Starts With You, Stafford! 🍂🌧️

With fall approaching, leaves and debris can quickly collect around our storm drains—and Stafford residents can help! The Cleanlet app makes it easy to take part in keeping neighborhood inlets clear while helping reduce flooding and keep debris out of our waterways.

And residents are already making an impact! 👏 So far in Stafford, Cleanlet has had 15+ users, more than 100 cleaning jobs issued, and 20+ documented cleanings completed. A special shoutout to Melinda Russell and Susan Birthler, two of our top participants, for getting out there and putting the program into action!

📱 How does Cleanlet work? The app notifies users of at-risk inlets before rainfall events. Participants can complete assigned cleaning jobs and earn points based on how quickly the work is completed after receiving the notification.

Why participate? Keeping inlets clear can help reduce street flooding, protect property and infrastructure, and prevent litter and debris from reaching our local waterways. Plus, it’s a simple way to make a visible difference right in your own neighborhood. 💧🌎

🏆 And there’s still time to get involved! Download the Cleanlet app using the QR code in the graphic and start earning points for your completed cleanings. Our top participants will have the opportunity to earn a $100, $150 or $250 gift card, so don’t wait to join in!

🎒🚌 Back to School, Stafford — Slow Down & Stay Alert! 🚌🎒

As students head back to the classroom this week, our roads, sidewalks, crosswalks, and bus stops are getting busier again! Whether you’re driving to work, dropping off at school, walking, or biking, a little extra patience can go a long way toward keeping everyone safe.

A few reminders as we settle back into the school-year routine:

🚸 Slow down in school zones and watch carefully for children crossing the street.
🚌 Be prepared for school buses making frequent stops, and always obey flashing lights and stop signals.
👀 Stay alert at crosswalks and bus stops, especially during morning and afternoon hours.
📵 Put the phone down while driving and keep your attention on the road.
🚲 Give pedestrians and bicyclists plenty of space and expect more children traveling to and from school.

And for our students: look both ways, use designated crossings whenever possible, stay aware of your surroundings, and never assume a driver sees you.

Mayor Henken and the Stafford Township Council wish all of our students, families, teachers, school staff, and bus drivers a safe and successful school year! 📚✏️

What a beautiful evening for our Stafford Township Rain Barrel Workshop last Monday! Mayor Henken and the Township Council wish to thank all of the residents who came out to learn more about water conservation, stormwater management, and how a simple rain barrel can make a difference right at home.

A very special thank you to Save Barnegat Bay for joining us and providing such an informative and engaging workshop! We truly appreciate their continued partnership and commitment to educating our community about ways we can all help protect our local waterways and the Barnegat Bay watershed.

We were thrilled by the response to this program, with registration filling up quickly! Seeing so many Stafford residents interested in conserving water and taking practical steps toward a more sustainable community makes programs like this especially rewarding. 🌿

Theme: Green Leader

🌿🌎 Green Challenge: Weeks 5–6 – Become a Green Leader! 🌎🌿

We’re halfway through the Stafford Township Green Team’s Green Challenge, now it’s time to take your commitment even further!

This round of actions focuses on deeper impact:
✔️ Start composting
✔️ Use eco-friendly cleaning products
✔️ Avoid watering lawns during peak hours
✔️ Switch to reusable glass containers for leftovers
✔️ Take a walk in the natural outdoors
✔️ Participate in a local cleanup
✔️ Visit community gardens

These are the steps that help turn everyday habits into long-term change. 💚

Don’t forget, participants must complete at least 2 actions every 2 weeks, but we encourage everyone to continue making environmentally conscious choices along the way.

Haven’t joined yet? No worries, you can jump in at any time! Just keep in mind that to be eligible for program completion, at least two actions must be completed from each two-week category.

🎥 Mayor’s Forum: Meet Our Summer Intern! ☀️🏛️

For this edition of the Mayor’s Forum, Mayor Rob Henken speaks with Jake Pleva, who recently wrapped up his summer internship with Stafford Township!

Jake, a 21-year-old student at McGill University in Montreal, is studying Urban Studies with an interest in pursuing a career in urban planning or transportation management. During his time with Stafford, Jake worked on the Stafford Forward initiative, helping make important Township plans and public documents easier for residents to find, understand, and access online.

One of Jake’s biggest takeaways from the summer? Seeing firsthand just how interconnected municipal government really is. He shared how much he learned about the way Stafford’s different departments work together—and how that collaboration makes so many of the Township’s projects, programs, and services possible.

And, of course, he learned that Stafford has some pretty great parades, too! 😄

👏 Mayor Henken, the Township Council and the entire Stafford Township team would like to thank Jake for his hard work, enthusiasm, and contributions throughout the summer. We wish him the very best as he returns to McGill and continues working toward his future career!

Mayor Henken and Township Council recognized "Turn the Towns Teal" during last night's Township Council meeting in honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, September 2026.

More than 19,680 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer, the deadliest of all female reproductive system cancers, and more than 12,740 of our mothers, daughters, wives, and sisters will lose their lives to this terrible disease. Every day across our country, families, friends, and communities come together to support and empower those who are fighting for their lives, offering encouragement and bringing hope for a cancer-free future. During National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, our Nation pauses to lift up all those who know the pain of this disease, honor those we have lost, and renew our commitment to fighting ovarian cancer through more effective prevention, detection, and treatment.
Ovarian cancer is difficult to detect early. There is no simple and reliable way to screen for it and symptoms are often not clear until later stages. By recognizing possible warning signs and unexplained changes, women can increase their likelihood of detecting ovarian cancer in its early stages when treatment is most effective and the chances for recovery are greatest.
We stand with all those who continue to fight this devastating disease and with those who have lost loved ones because of it. Along with the advocates, medical researchers, and health care providers who tirelessly battle this disease every day, we rededicate ourselves to the urgent work of increasing awareness and improving care for those with ovarian cancer and we continue forging a future free from cancer in all its forms.
