‼️ WEATHER ALERT ‼️

Hot, humid weather is expected in the area with the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms later in the day. Stay hydrated, limit prolonged time outdoors during peak heat, wear light-colored clothing, and check on children, older adults, and pets. If storms develop, move indoors immediately and avoid flooded roadways. Stay weather-aware and stay safe!

Our spectacular start to the workweek ramps warmer on this Wednesday, but still not too humid.

The high heat makes a comeback tomorrow, with a chance of strong storms too, but then we're right back to more comfortable temperatures starting Friday.

🎆 FIREWORKS SAFETY MESSAGE FROM MANASSAS PARK FIRE & RESCUE 🚒

As Independence Day approaches, Manassas Park Fire & Rescue would like to remind residents to celebrate safely and responsibly. While fireworks are a long-standing holiday tradition, they can also pose significant risks to people, pets, homes, and property when used improperly.

The City of Manassas Park has specific regulations regarding the possession and use of fireworks. Under City Code § 9-53(a), it is unlawful to transport, possess, sell, buy, use, ignite, or explode fireworks within the city unless specifically permitted by ordinance.

🚫 Prohibited fireworks include:
• Firecrackers
• Cherry bombs
• Roman candles
• Bottle rockets
• Skyrockets
• Torpedoes
• Any fireworks that explode, launch into the air, or function as projectiles

✅ Permitted novelty fireworks may include:
• Sparklers
• Fountains
• Pharaoh's serpents
• Pinwheels (whirligigs)

Even permitted novelty fireworks may only be used on private property with the permission of the property owner, as outlined in City Code § 9-53(b).

🌳 Please remember that all City of Manassas Park parks are public property. Fireworks are prohibited in city parks unless they are part of an approved public display.

🎇 Any organized public fireworks display must be reviewed and approved through the Fire Marshal's Office in accordance with City Code § 9-66.

Every year, fireworks-related incidents result in injuries, fires, and property damage. By following local laws and exercising caution, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for everyone in our community.

🔥 For complete ordinance information, please refer to Chapter 9, Fire Prevention and Protection, of the Manassas Park City Code.

Fire Medic T.Anderson led a discussion on a topic that doesn't always get talked about enough in the firehouse: mental health.

As first responders, we witness people on some of the worst days of their lives. We see tragedy, loss, and trauma, and while we're trained to handle the call, the effects of those experiences can stay with us long after the sirens are turned off.

Taking care of our mental health is just as important as taking care of our physical health. Looking out for one another, having difficult conversations, and knowing when to ask for help are signs of strength...not weakness.

Thank you to Fire Medic Anderson for sharing his experience and helping remind our members that no one has to carry the weight of this job alone. The fire service is built on brotherhood and sisterhood, and that means being there for each other both on and off the fireground.

It's okay to not be okay, but it's not okay to stay there.

Our Nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay, but we can honor their sacrifice. Let us remember the brave men and women who gave their lives to defend our constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. We honor their courage to face fear, danger, adversity, and the ultimate sacrifice. Home of the free, because of the brave. In memory of many, and in honor of all.
