As EMS Week 2026 comes to a close, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to the City of Manassas community for your continued support of our Fire & Rescue personnel.

Thank you to City Council, City Leaders, residents, business owners, and visitors for the encouragement, appreciation, and partnership you show our members each and every day. Your support allows us to continue serving our community with pride and dedication.

This year’s EMS Week theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” reminds us that emergency medical services is truly a team effort. From our firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics to the community we proudly serve, we are stronger together and committed to providing the highest level of care possible.

Thank you, Manassas, for standing beside us and supporting those who answer the call.

We didn't forget B Shift.... They were celebrated with a luncheon today, as well, but so much fun was had that we forgot to get some pictures. Each of our shifts, just like each of our providers - whether career or volunteer - are so very vital to this system and to the services we provide the City of Manassas.

EMS Week is an important opportunity to pause and recognize the dedication, compassion, and professionalism of our EMS providers and first responders who serve our community every day.

May is also Mental Health Awareness Month — a time to bring attention to the importance of mental wellness, reduce stigma, and encourage support for those facing mental health challenges. Throughout the month, you will see our providers wearing green shirts to help raise awareness and show support for mental health awareness initiatives.

As first responders, we know that caring for others also means caring for ourselves and one another. 💚 During today's EMS Week luncheon staff, along with Vice Mayor Wolfe, took the opportunity to showcase our mental health awareness uniform.

Today marks our 3rd day celebrating EMS Week here in the City of Manassas. We celebrated today, along with A Shift and Vice Mayor Wolfe, for a barbeque lunch. We are embracing this year's theme of "Improving Outcomes, Together."

We've told you that over 70% of our total call volume is EMS related, but did you know those calls could be anything from a sprained ankle, to a mother in labor, or a diabetic emergency, child getting hurt at school, vehicle accident, COVID, heart attack, or someone who just doesn't feel right. Our staff is trained to handle many various types of emergencies.

Please join us in sending a big THANK YOU to all of our providers - career and volunteer - for their service to this City.

Today, we continued celebrating EMS Week by hosting a luncheon for our C Shift personnel, with Chief Mills, Deputy Chief Franzello, and Battalion Chief Fox serving up lunch fresh off the grill as a small token of appreciation. Luncheons have become our EMS Week tradition over the years. Each member of C shift was also entered into a raffle to win a cooler filled with various small gifts to enjoy the Spring/Summer weather.

This year’s EMS Week theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” highlights the teamwork and dedication demonstrated daily by our firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics. With more than 70% of our calls being EMS-related, our personnel consistently provide compassionate, high-quality care to those in need.

Thank you to our C Shift members for your unwavering commitment to serving our community each and every day. Your professionalism, service, and dedication do not go unnoticed. And a special thank you to Vice-Mayor Wolfe and Council Member Osina for stopping by and letting staff know how much their service means.

Please join us in celebrating EMS Week 2026! 🚑💙

This year's national theme, "Improving Outcomes, Together," recognizes the collaboration, dedication, and compassion that drive emergency medical services every day.

Every firefighter with CMFRD is also certified as an EMS provider, providing either Basic Life Support - BLS, or Advanced Life Support - ALS; this reflects the critical role EMS plays in the services we provide to our community. In fact, more than 70% of our calls for service are EMS related. This highlights the increasing need for highly trained EMS professionals who are prepared to respond at a moment's notice.

They often say it takes a village - and it's no different with EMS. From bystanders who make the call for help, dispatchers, EMTs / Paramedics, firefighters, nurses, physicians, law enforcement, and staff behind the scenes - positive patient outcomes are only possible when we work together as one team.

So please join us in proudly recognizing the EMS providers and first responders - both career and volunteer - who provide compassionate care, lifesaving interventions, and unwavering service to our community each and every day (no matter what). If you see our crews, please thank them for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to improving outcomes together.

As we continue celebrating Administrative Professionals Day, we’re proud to recognize our outstanding Administrative Coordinator—someone whose impact is felt across every level of our organization.

Serving as the Fire Chief’s Assistant and Data Analyst rolled up into one Administrative Coordinator, Melissa Heiderman is a trusted partner in leadership and a key connection point between our department, volunteers, and the community. When in the role of our Data Analyst, Melissa brings clarity to complex information, helping guide decisions and strengthen our operations. Simply put, she is our go-to—reliable, knowledgeable, and always willing to step in wherever needed.

As our first-ever administrative professional, she helped lay the foundation for the vital role administrative staff play in our organization today. Her leadership continues to extend beyond our department as well. Melissa represented CMFRD recently while presenting at the Center for Public Safety Excellence’s Excellence Conference (March 2026) and the NCR Fire & Emergency Response Analysts Symposium (April 2026), sharing her expertise and advancing the data analyst profession. She is also among the first 35 individuals worldwide to earn CPSE’s Fire and Emergency Services Analyst (FESA) designation—an incredible achievement.

Her dedication, innovation, and commitment to excellence make a lasting difference every day. Please join us in recognizing and thanking her for all she does!

Today, we’re proud to recognize and celebrate Administrative Professionals Day—and we couldn’t let it pass without highlighting one of the incredible people who keeps everything running behind the scenes.

Our Fiscal Specialist, Dana Campbell, plays a vital role in our organization every single day. From ensuring payroll is accurate and on time, to managing invoices and purchase orders, to writing and overseeing grants, and collaborating closely with our EMS billing contractor; her work touches nearly every part of what we do. Dana works closely with Emergency Management, the EMS Team, training and budget. She handles complex responsibilities with precision, professionalism, and a willingness to jump in and help wherever needed.

Her dedication doesn’t always happen in the spotlight, but it makes a meaningful difference for our entire team and the community we serve.

Please join us in thanking her for her hard work, commitment, and the countless ways she supports our mission. 👏
