Circumstances

I have found myself, from time to time,
out of choices just to get by,
out of reasons to keep trying,
out of creativity to figure it out.

But I have never found myself
out of faith.

Every time someone said I couldn’t reach it,
or build it,
or make it—
God did it.

I have come to know
that circumstances are temporary,
but God is here,
And I am tethered to His favor in my life.

When circumstances are bleak,
I have learned to be still.

For He is God.

My friend Ashley Hutson, Manassas City Council always says that governance is cool. I agree. There are a lot of cool things about governing. I am grateful for every day I get to serve. However, you won’t be able to experience this cool aspect of governance if you do not anchor yourself in your purpose, values and character. So here’s a bit of guidance for SB hopefuls:

Dear Manassas,
Tonight was difficult, but difficult nights do not change why I serve.

I am committed, and I will faithfully continue to carry out my oath of office. I answer to God, to my conscience, and to the responsibility entrusted to me by the people I serve.

In public, I strive to represent the very best of the values my family has taught me, integrity, service, dignity, and doing what is right, even when it is difficult.

I remain committed to our students, our staff, and our community.
