Today's County Board agenda seemed 'light'. After some good discussions, a Resolution to stop our farmland from being purchased by foreign based companies was discussed. While this resolution has no enforcement teeth, it does let our local ag operators know we support them.
I voted yes to show that support.
Our County depends on the agriculture industry and they need our support!
A lease agreement with Enterprise was approved 26-0, for its merit regarding cost savings to the County and a better rotation of vehicles for our Officers.
UWEX Bill Oemichen gave an excellent presentation on Budgeting for County Boards. Important info was the Levy Limit the State imposes, at a percent of New construction in the County. With inflation at nearly double that %, it is impossible for the County to maintain the budget. When this compounds yearly, you have budget shortfalls. No way to get around that, except to borrow or ask voters to approve higher taxes. Nobody wants that!
As for the upcoming Zoning Amendments: there will be another attempt to hold a public hearing, and it will be at 7:00 pm. Watch for the notices for time and place. I've suggested an information/educational component to be presented so concerned residents can give informed, thoughtful public comment. You should know this: there is NOT an application for a Data Center in Waupaca County at this time. There are also NO current NDA's being considered. Stay tuned for info as it becomes available.
Meeting adjourned around 11:00(ish).
Thanks for reading.
