A heartfelt thank you from Mayor Joseph Hankins to Dr. Ashley Leo and her outstanding staff at Whiting Veterinary Clinic!

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, Manchester Township hosted its Rabies Clinic at both the Ridgeway Firehouse and Whiting Firehouse — and it was a tremendous success, thanks in large part to the generosity of Dr. Leo and her dedicated team, who graciously donated their time to serve our community.

Dr. Leo and her staff exemplify what it means to be truly professional, caring, and compassionate. Going above and beyond, they even administered rabies vaccinations to frightened animals right in their owners' cars — a small but meaningful gesture that made all the difference for our nervous furry friends and their families.

Manchester Township is fortunate to have such exceptional individuals in our community. Thank you, Dr. Leo, and the entire Whiting Veterinary Clinic team, for your kindness, your expertise, and your unwavering commitment to the well-being of our animals.

Don’t miss your chance to enroll your child in the Manchester Police Youth Academy!

The Academy is not a “boot camp” for troubled youth, but a camp designed to operate like an actual police academy for those interested in Law Enforcement. The Academy will be held at the Manchester Township Police headquarters from July 6-9, 2026.

We will educate the cadets with various police procedures, history of Manchester Township Police, tours of the police headquarters, a field trip to Ocean County Police and Fire Academy, and provide them with comprehensive understanding of what it takes to succeed in the profession of law enforcement.

The application can be found on our Manchester Police website as well as the main office of any Manchester Township School. Your child must be a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student as of September 2026.
Please return the completed application and required information to Manchester Police Headquarters located at 1 Colonial Drive.

Congratulations to Judith Noonan, who this week took her Oath of Office as the newest member of the Manchester Township Council!

"Thank you all for your support. I appreciate it, and I will do the best I can for all of you," said Councilwoman Noonan in public remarks following her swearing in on May 26, 2026.

Councilwoman Noonan was selected by the members of Council at the May 13, 2026, meeting to serve the unexpired term of former Councilwoman Roxanne Conniff, which runs through December 31, 2026.

Before moving to Manchester Township, Ms. Noonan served on the Berkeley Township Council and has more than 20 years of service in government, community engagement, and senior advocacy. Currently a Confidential Aide to Mayor Joseph Hankins, she volunteers with the Ocean County Senior Services Advisory Board and will focus on finding solutions to concerns related to rising utility costs.

We wish you well, Councilwoman Noonan, as you serve the residents of Manchester Township!

Members of Manchester Division of Emergency Services were on hand to accept the Proclamation on behalf of all those devoted individuals.

Each year, our Manchester Township community gathers with pride on Memorial Day to witness the tremendous outpouring of support for those who sacrificed for our Country. This morning's commemoration at Grand Army Memorial in Pine Lake Park served as a moving tribute in honor of those who bravely gave everything while serving.

"Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom," said Mayor Joseph Hankins during his keynote address. "Today, we remember those who never returned home. They are our neighbors, friends, and family members -- ordinary people who answered the extraordinary call."

The proceedings continued with remarks from Guest Speaker Senator Carmen F. Amato, Jr., NJ 9th Legislative District, who reflected upon on the patriotic character of Manchester Township and its residents.

"Here in Manchester, we are fortunate to live in a community that deeply respects military service and patriotism," said Senator Amato. "To those we remember today, we offer our eternal gratitude. The legacy of these brave Americans must never be forgotten."

Following Senator Amato's remarks, Assemblyman Gregory E. Myhre presented a Memorial Day Proclamation on behalf of the 9th Legislative District. Continuing the program were patriotic musical performances, a martial arts demonstration, presentation of wreaths by local emergency response and civic organizations, and a somber rendition of "Taps." Mayor Hankins closed the ceremony by issuing a Proclamation in honor of Memorial Day, which was proudly accepted by Veterans Advisory Committee Chairman Roger Grenier and the members of the organization.

Joining Mayor Hankins at the ceremony were Council Vice President James Vaccaro, Councilman Craig Wallis, Councilwoman Sandy Drake, incoming Council appointee Judith Noonan, members of the Manchester Veterans Advisory Committee, and Chief Antonio Ellis. Thank you to the Manchester Recreation staff for organizing this event each year, the Public Works crew for set up support, and to all of the residents, first responders, active and retired United States Service Members, and civic groups that were in attendance.

We also thank all those who participated in the program, including the Manchester Police Honor Guard, Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, Ridgeway Vol. Fire Co. #1 Sta. 34, Whiting Fire Company Sta. 33, Manchester Division of Emergency Services, Veterans Advisory Committee, Rev. Daniel Schnitzer of Whiting Bible Church, Manchester High School Marching Band, Manchester High School ROTC, Master Manny's K*m Sung, and musical performers Marisiya Goins and Athens Licitra.

Your contributions made this Memorial Day commemoration a special community event for the many residents and honored guests in attendance. May we all continue to remember, today and each day, those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our Country.
