šŸ“µ 2026-2027 Updated Wireless Device Expectations

Manchester Community Schools is implementing updated expectations under Wireless Communications Devices (WCDs) Policy 5136.

During instructional time, students are expected to keep personal wireless devices put away and not in use, unless an approved exception applies.

This includes:
• Cell phones;
• Smartwatches;
• Earbuds or headphones connected to personal devices;
• Tablets;
• Other personal devices capable of calling, messaging, accessing apps or the internet, taking photos or videos, or similar functions.

āœ… Important exceptions include:
• Medically necessary devices;
• District-owned devices;
• Devices approved for instructional purposes;
• Devices required through an IEP, Section 504 Plan, or other accommodation;
• Lesson-specific use directly authorized by a teacher;
• Emergency situations consistent with District procedures.

ā˜Žļø Need to reach your student during instructional time?
Please contact your student’s school office through the school phone system. Staff can assist with important or time-sensitive messages while helping minimize classroom interruptions.

Students who do not follow these expectations will be addressed through the progressive discipline procedures outlined in their school’s Student Handbook.

We encourage families to review these expectations and their school handbook with their students before the school year begins.

Questions? Please contact your building principal.

Thank you for partnering with us to help keep students focused, engaged, and present during learning.
