This week has been busy with Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival coming to town, but our departments have made significant progress, nonetheless.

Manchester Parks and Recreation
Work continues on the aerobics room floor, with completion expected next week and a possible reopening on June 22. Summer Camp participants enjoyed making their own pizzas. The pool has been very busy with strong family attendance.

Manchester Police Department
Officers did an excellent job managing traffic, ensuring public safety, and keeping the community informed throughout the week.

Fire Department:
Crews repaired the Chick-fil-A flag on Monday and responded to a major car fire Tuesday night.

Water Department:
Significant progress was made supporting the upcoming TDOT bridge project on Highway 55. Crews located a 50+ year-old water main over 20 feet deep, helping prevent service disruptions during construction. Hydrant inspections and maintenance also continue system wide. Recognition goes to the field staff for their professionalism and dedication.

City of Manchester Public Works Department
Paving was completed on Woodland St, East High St, and Coffee St.

Mayor’s Office:
Joey Hobbs, Mayor of Manchester spoke at the Rotary Club about plans for Manchester’s participation in celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Planned activities include a petting zoo, face painting, bounce houses, banana split and watermelon eating contests, sack races, and water balloon activities.

📢Thursday Afternoon Bonnaroo Traffic Update

Other than the expected congestion on the south end of Hillsboro Boulevard, traffic conditions throughout the city remain steady with no significant issues to report.

As the evening progresses, we do anticipate an increase in traffic volume, particularly around the intersections of Highway 55/Ragsdale Road and Highway 41 South. Please plan accordingly and allow for extra travel time if you’re in those areas.

We’d also like to recognize the many city employees from departments across Manchester who are assisting with traffic control efforts. Their teamwork and dedication play a major role in keeping traffic moving safely and efficiently.

Additionally, we greatly appreciate the patience, understanding, and support of our local community. It does not go unnoticed. Our personnel continue to work hard to maintain as much normalcy as possible for both residents and visitors.

As traffic conditions change, we will provide updates here. Thank you, and have a safe evening.

A big thank you to the Manchester Rotary Club for asking me (Sandra McMullin Bennett) to come and talk about the Coffee County Historical Society's big plans for our July 4th Celebration at the historic courthouse on the square in Manchester.
Manchester Mayor Joey Hobbs was also asked to come and talk about the City's plans for the day.
Turns out, the Historical Society will be showcasing the historical significance of the day and the City will be focused on families, kids and fireworks. Both events are important and appropriate. There's literally something for everyone!
Let's make the 250th Anniversary of the Signing of the Delaration of Independence the best celebration ever held in Coffee County ....including the world's largest pajama party which was held in 1986.

This week we had the opportunity to hear from Sandra McMullin Bennett and Joey Hobbs, Mayor of Manchester about the exciting plans being developed by the Historical Society and the City of Manchester as our community prepares to celebrate America’s 250th Birthday!
From honoring our nation’s rich history to creating memorable events that bring our community together, there is so much to look forward to as we commemorate this historic milestone. The passion and dedication being invested in these celebrations will help ensure that the story of our nation and our local heritage is shared with future generations.
We are excited to see these plans come to life and look forward to joining our fellow citizens in celebrating 250 years of American history, patriotism, and community spirit.
