Youth leaders from Manchester Twp High School Youth Prevention Coalition (YPC), with the support of Ocean County DART and Manchester Twp Municipal Alliance, are working together to raise community awareness about New Jersey laws and prevent underage drinking. Alcohol is the most widely used substance of abuse among youth and is easy to get through family members and unrelated adults. This is why the YPC are participating in a community Project Sticker Shock to educate the public and change attitudes about purchasing alcohol for anyone under 21.

The Project Sticker Shock event was held on April 15th in multiple liquor establishments throughout Manchester. YPC students and their club advisor, Jennifer Eckert, MTHS Student Assistance Counselor, visited participating alcohol retailers to place stickers that say it is illegal to purchase alcohol for minors and use a fake ID on cases of alcoholic beverages. The stickers were placed to serve as a reminder that community members do not support adults who may provide alcohol to underage youth. The Project Sticker Shock event hopes to cause adults to think twice before making it any easier for youth to access alcohol and to remind underage drinkers that using a fake ID is a criminal offense. Thank you to Plaza Wines & Liquor, Spirit Express, and Wine Centers of Manchester for participating in this community awareness event.
