Had a wonderful Solar Plate Etching class with the incomparable printmaker Maureen May from Durango! Solar plate etching is such a versatile and non-toxic way to etch plates for intaglio printmaking. We learned so many ways to use this plate developed years ago by Dan Welden. 😎☀️

We are very excited to announce our 2026 Artist-in-Residence, Javier Flores!

Javier is an artist and educator whose work explores themes of culture, ecology, masculinity, politics, temporality, and loss through the language of printmaking and image-making. Drawing from a rich visual lexicon, his work often incorporates animals as narrative tools that help communicate layered stories and ideas. His thoughtful approach to materials, composition, and process makes him a wonderful fit for the Mancos Common Press community.

We are looking forward to welcoming Javier to Mancos in July and can’t wait to see the work he creates during his residency. Stay tuned for future artist opportunities to engage with his work while he is here at the Press.

JUNE CAMPS CLOSING SOON!

Mancos Common Press summer camps offer a dynamic series of hands-on printmaking experiences designed to spark creativity and curiosity in young artists.

Each week explores a unique theme—from creating prints with textures found in the landscapes of Mancos, to experimenting with monoprinting, gel printing, and collagraphs, to capturing the spirit of the Wild West through nature-based processes like cyanotypes. Older campers can dive deeper into specialized techniques such as screen printing, etching, and block printing using accessible materials like erasers.

Guided by experienced instructors, participants will design and produce their own original works while building artistic skills, confidence, and a connection to place. These small-group camps provide a rare opportunity in Southwest Colorado for youth to explore both traditional and contemporary printmaking in an inspiring, community-centered environment.

Scholarships available in 25%, 50% and full! For more information, and to register, visit: mancoscommonpress.org/community-classes
