Help us celebrate Adrian J. Doucette, a World War II hero & member of the Chahta Tribe of Bonfouca, who will soon celebrate his 100th birthday! 🎉
Councilman Arthur Laughlin and the Parish Council, Dr. Jerome Buller, COL (USA Retired) of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs & President Mike Cooper gathered yesterday to honor Mr. Doucette’s life and service to our country with a proclamation, commendation from Governor Jeff Landry, Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal, state flag and challenge coins.
Born on September 12, 1926, Adrian J. Doucette is a Montford Point Marine and a member of the Tchefuncta Nation, Chahta Tribe of Bonfouca, whose historic community is deeply rooted in St. Tammany Parish.
Mr. Doucette proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a Private First Class and marksman in the Pacific arena, contributing to the defense of our nation and to the preservation of freedom around the world. Following his military service, Mr. Doucette continued to exemplify the values of service, perseverance, courage, faith, family, and devotion to community, including as one of the many cowboys of Bonfouca who helped keep the tribe's traditions, culture, and heritage alive.
Married to the late Thelma Doucette, the Doucettes built a remarkable family that includes seven children, 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren!
The freedoms we enjoy today were made possible through the service and sacrifice of veterans such as Adrian J. Doucette, whose legacy deserves our enduring gratitude and respect.
