🐾 Hurricane Season Pet SafetyπŸŒ€

Earlier this week we covered the basics. Now let's get specific.

Meet Sadie, Mandeville Fire/EMS's official hurricane prep pup, and she's here to walk you through exactly what goes in the pet go-bag.

Here's your full checklist:

🍞 Food and water for at least 7 days
πŸ’Š Medications and copies of medical records in waterproof containers
🧡 Leash, harness and carrier
πŸ’§ Waste bags, litter and litter box
🧸 Comfort items like a favorite toy or blanket
πŸ«• Feeding bowls

And don't forget the bigger picture:
βœ… Know your pet-friendly evacuation route BEFORE a storm is named
βœ… Most public shelters do NOT accept pets. Have a backup plan now
βœ… Keep ID tags updated and microchip info current
βœ… Save your vet and emergency animal hospital numbers in your phone today

A little preparation now can save your pet's life when it matters most.

πŸ’¬ Tell us: what's already in your pet's go-bag? Drop it in the comments!

πŸš’ GROUNDBREAKING DAY AT STATION 44! πŸš’

Today was a huge milestone for our department and the community we proudly serve. We officially broke ground on the renovation of Fire Station 44 and we could not be more excited.

Station 44 was built in 1987 and originally designed for a single firefighter. Nearly four decades later, our crew and call volume have grown tremendously and it is time the station keeps up with that demand.

None of this happens without the support of this incredible community. Thank you to everyone who came out today, to those who championed this project, and to every single person who has had our backs along the way. We are grateful and we do not take it lightly.

The best is yet to come for Station 44! πŸ™πŸ”₯

πŸ“… Today is the first day of Hurricane Season, running June 1 through November 30.

For those of us on the Northshore, we know it only takes one storm to change everything. Now is a good time to review your evacuation plan, refresh your emergency kit, and make sure your home and family are ready, pets included.

βœ… Know your zone and your options
βœ… Stock up on food, water, and medications
βœ… Follow official sources and sign up for alerts
βœ… Take small steps now to protect your home

We'll be sharing pet safety tips and evacuation planning resources later this week. Prepared communities are safer communities. πŸ’™

Happy Memorial Day from your Mandeville Fire/EMS family! ❀️πŸ”₯

Today we fire up the grill πŸ–, gather with the people we love πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦, and enjoy the freedoms that make this country great. We do all of it because of the incredible men and women who gave everything in service to this nation. πŸŽ–οΈ

We are a department built on service, and we have nothing but the deepest respect and gratitude for those who wore a different uniform and answered the ultimate call. 🫑

Enjoy your day, Mandeville. Hug your people a little tighter, and take a moment to remember why we celebrate. πŸ™

Thank you to the fallen ⭐. Thank you to the families πŸ’›. Thank you, today and every day. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

πŸ”₯ Attention, backyard grill masters of Mandeville! Yes, ALL of you who just pulled that grill out of the garage and declared it "basically still clean." We need to have a little chat. πŸ–

Memorial Day weekend is here, and while we fully support your right to char a hot dog into something unrecognizable, we'd like to keep our trucks in the bay this weekend. So before you ignite, here's a friendly reminder from your neighbors in turnout gear:

πŸ“ 3 FEET IS KEY: Keep your grill at least 3 feet from your house, fence, tree branches, and anything else that wasn't meant to become part of the cookout.

🧹 CLEAN BEFORE YOU COOK: Grease buildup is NOT a flavor enhancer. It IS a fire starter. Clean your grill before firing it up.

πŸ”© CHECK YOUR CONNECTIONS: Inspect your gas tank hoses for leaks or blockages before lighting. Hissing noises are only acceptable from your neighbor's cat.

πŸ’¨ DON'T GRILL IN STRONG WINDS: Winds spread flames fast. If it's gusting, step inside, grab a cold drink, and wait it out. The burgers will still be there.

Great food. Good friends. Safe memories. That's all we want for you this Memorial Day weekend. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έβ€οΈ

Happy Memorial Day from all of us at Mandeville Fire/EMS! We'd love to celebrate WITH you, just not while we're extinguishing your house. πŸ˜„πŸš’

πŸš’πŸ… BIG NEWS from Mandeville Fire/EMS!

Last week, we had the honor of welcoming the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) peer assessment team to our community for our re-accreditation site visit, and we are proud to share that the results were outstanding!

The peer assessment team came to Mandeville with one mission: to verify that our walk matches our talk. After a thorough review of our operations, personnel, and standards... it does. βœ…

Based on their satisfactory findings, we have officially been recommended by the peer assessment team to appear before the full CPSE Accreditation Commission in August!

You may be asking, "This is great, but what does it mean for ME?"

Here's what it means: Only 7% of the U.S. population is protected by a Class 1 & Internationally Accredited Fire Department. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

That means YOU, the residents and visitors of Mandeville, are in an elite class. You are served by a department that doesn't just meet the standard... we set it.

This re-accreditation process is one of many steps we take to ensure that when you need us most, we are ready, trained, and operating at the highest level possible.

Every single day, we show up committed to being better than we were the day before. This is our promise to you. πŸ™

Thank you to our incredible team, our community, and the CPSE peer assessment team for making this possible. August, here we come! πŸ’ͺ
