The Greer County Sheriff’s Office has recently received reports of campaign signs being stolen, damaged, or vandalized in Mangum.
Regardless of political affiliation, candidate, or issue, campaign signs placed legally on private property are protected by law. Removing, damaging, defacing, or destroying these signs is not only disrespectful to the property owner and candidate, but it may also warrant a criminal offense.
We encourage all citizens to respect the rights of others to express their views and participate in the electoral process. Healthy debate is a cornerstone of our democracy, but criminal behavior is not.
If you witness the theft or vandalism of campaign signs, or if you have information regarding these incidents, please contact the Greer County Sheriff’s Office.
An election should be decided at the ballot box, not through theft, vandalism, or intimidation. Every citizen has the right to support the candidate of their choice, and every candidate has the right to communicate with voters without their property being damaged or stolen. We will investigate these incidents and hold those responsible accountable.
Let’s work together to keep Greer County a place where people can disagree respectfully while respecting the law and the rights of others.
