Instead of holding the Democratic party hostage big donors who are withholding donations from Democrats who stand with the President should focus on defining what this election is about. On November 5th we will vote for one of two radically different directions for America. Whether we vote Democrat, Republican, third party, or write in...only one of two outcomes will result. Unity is needed and time is running out. Project 2025 is a new name for the work The Heritage Foundation has been doing for over 40 years. They have published their policy manual, Mandate for Leadership, since 1980 and every Republican President since Reagan has implemented a great deal of their policies. They have played a central role in the extreme right takeover of the GOP and federal courts, including the Supreme Court. Donald Trump's first administration was full of their people and he implemented more of their policies than any President before him. This video from 2018 of a Fox interview of the Heritage Foundation and a former Trump campaign official establishes facts.

Read for yourself the plans Project 2025 and Trump have in store for America. In his first term President Trump implemented 2/3 of the policies in The Heritage Foundation's 2017 Mandate for Leadership. He was more of a partner to Heritage than Ronald Reagan was. If you wonder why Kathy Hochul seems confident as she disappoints Democratic voters in NY state by unilaterally derailing years of lobbying and negotiating...just consider that the vast majority of voters made themselves irrelevant to her by not participating in our elections year after year. Nobody is stopping them. In fact voting was made incredibly accessible with a full week of early voting, mail in ballots available to everyone who applied for them, and election day. The myth that voting doesn't matter is harming us with each election.

Close to 6.5 million registered Democrats were eligible to vote in the 2022 NY Gubanatorial Primary. Kathy Hochul won that election with votes from only 607,928 of them. Just 10% of all Democrats in NY state chose who would represent us. In the subsequent general election Governor Hochul received votes from only 3,140,415 of the over 12 million registered voters in New York who were eligible to vote. Only a quarter of registered voters chose who would be our Governor. As we rightly condemn Republican voter suppression laws WE MUST FIX OUR OWN ANTIDEMOCRATIC HABITS.

If we want better governance then we must persuade more New Yorkers to vote. If you understand the nature of this problem then you should be speaking about it, educating your family, friends and colleagues about the need to vote. Every election matters and every vote counts.

Happy Pride month! It's been strange to be uncomfortable with recent protests because I believe protest plays a needed role. Really, I'm worried about a sizable number of protesters who say they are willing to hand the election to Trump because they're angry with Biden. I watched G. Bush win when I thought there was no way Americans would elect such a moron...especially after his debate performance. Then...again...I thought they'd never reelect someone who allowed the illegal eavesdropping of Americans, lied to the world to wage pointless war, created a prison to detain people indefinitely without trial, and messed the world up in ways that were unimaginable (back then). It was painful when Trump won in 2016. Then Roe. Then Clarence Thomas' Dobbs opinion. Now, almost everything two generations of qu**rs and women fought for are on the chopping block because Trump has a chance to win in November.

It's not a slim possibility. He is as close as Biden is in the polls to being American's choice for President. With so many young people signalling that they will not vote for Biden, it would be foolish not to be worried. If we think of anything this Pride month PLEASE let's think about qu**rs in red states where over 400 anti-q***r bills are being debated. What will happen to them if a Trump Justice Department uses its resources to side with red states as their hateful laws are challenged in court. Blue state qu**rs will be okay, as will those of means in red states. But a great number of poor and Black, Latino, Asian, and especially young q***r folks in red states will KILL THEMSELVES. Su***de trends tell us this. Those who remain alive will be targets for the right. Think about qu**rs in Uganda...that is what conservatives want for us here. Trump represents the path of least resistance.

In June of 1969 riots got us the rights that make our Pride celebration in June of 2024 possible. In November our votes will determine the safety of millions of qu**rs in America and our rights. So have a safe and fun Pride month. And please vote in November to protect our community.

Today we remember the brave souls whose lives were taken from them and their families by decisions made by elected officials on our behalf. As Justice Brandeis said, “The most important political office is that of the private citizen.” To honor our fallen heroes and the young, often marginalized, Americans who will serve us in future battles, we must vote in every election we're eligible for...local, state, midterm, primary, and presidential.

This year will be the 19th annual joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day ceremony organized by Combatants for Peace and the Bereaved Families Forum. It is the only one of its kind and it is the largest Israeli-Palestinian jointly organized peace event. Last year over 15,000 people were in attendance physically and around 200,000 virtually from all around the world.

Our ceremony is radically different from the typical ceremonies that promote a narrative that war and death are inevitable and necessary. Instead, the joint memorial event is a unique opportunity for Israelis and Palestinians to grieve together and stand united in demanding an end to the bloodshed. In mourning together, we seek not to equate experiences, but rather transform despair into hope and build compassion around our shared humanity. We remind ourselves and the world that occupation, oppression, and conflict are not inevitable.
