My Summer applied learning experience

Meet Ramsay Thayer, an Applied Learning Experiences (ALE) Ambassador majoring in Personal Financial Planning. This summer, she is taking her education global and participating in the Business Leadership and Fashion program in the beautiful town of Orvieto, Italy!

"In my experience so far in Orvieto, I have gotten to take my experiences to a whole new level. With a new culture, transportation, and language, I have been able to apply my learning in my classes through field trips and workshops. I love Italy!"

What are leadership studies alumni doing with their leadership development? Meet Haden Botkin, Ph.D., '22, assistant professor, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

"The Staley School played a tremendous role in shaping my beliefs and assumptions related to leadership learning and practice, particularly in that leadership emerges in and through relationships. This is particularly true in service-learning, community engagement, and so on, where quality relationships are so crucial and where we're trying to make progress together on the grand challenges of our time. My time as a leadership studies student prepared me to advance these commitments as a scholar-practitioner of collective leadership, service-learning, and community engagement.

I am delighted to have been invited to give a keynote address at Indiana University Bloomington’s annual Conference on Community-Engaged Learning. Many thanks to the conference organizers for inviting me to campus! It’s a critical time, to say the least, for this work and it has been a privilege to spend a couple days on the IUB campus, where community engagement is alive and well."
