Sylvia described her experience with Habitat for Humanity of the Northern Flint Hills as "life-changing". Sylvia has been connected with the repair program for over a year, and we have worked with her to address several major problems with her home. The repairs began with replacing her roof, which was in very poor condition and causing additional damage inside the house. The repair team also repaired a dangerous sinkhole in her backyard, fixed ceiling damage from leaks, and built a porch and ramp to make her home safer and more accessible.
Beyond the physical repairs, the team also connected Sylvia with other helpful community resources that provided her with a new washer, dryer, and refrigerator. Sylvia stated things like, “This kind of work is underrated. Nobody really knows how much effort and love and sacrifice it takes,” when describing how she was treated. Habitat for Humanity of the Northern Flint Hills was the only organization that truly stepped in and was willing to help when Sylvia felt like she had run out of options.
“Habitat Flint Hills is a source of hope, support, and real help for people who are struggling to maintain safe homes.”
Sylvia's home is one of the many repair projects that we couldn't do without community support. We are excited to be a part of Wamego Match Day this year to continue growing our repair program in Pottawatomie County!
