PA Game, Fish and Boat Commissions Seek Feedback

The Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) are inviting public input about their draft 2025-2035 Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan.

The draft plan and public comment form are available online. Comments must be submitted by Sept. 19.

According to the agencies, the Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan was first developed in 2005 and has since served as the Commonwealth’s blueprint “to conserve Pennsylvania’s native fish and wildlife, maintain resilient habitat, and protect and enhance Species of Greatest Conservation Need.” As required by Congress, state wildlife action plans must be revised no less than every 10 years.

A wildlife action plan approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is required for states to receive State and Tribal Wildlife Grant Program funds. The Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan is scheduled to be delivered to the USFWS by Oct. 1.

1 in 10 Pennsylvanians has unclaimed property, with the average claim being more than $1,000! According to the Pennsylvania Treasury, millions of dollars in unclaimed property come into the bureau each year. And I was told this week that the PA Treasury holds over $14 million dollars of unclaimed money belonging to residents and organizations in the 37th District.

To find out if you or a member of your family is entitled to unclaimed property, just contact my district office or visit PATreasury.com.

Unclaimed property is any financial asset that has been left inactive by the owner for a period of seven years or more. If no lawful owner claims the property at that time, it is transferred to the Treasury. The most common kinds of unclaimed property include savings and checking accounts, uncashed checks, unclaimed
insurance benefits, all made unclaimed by something as simple as a misspelled name or an out-of-date address. The amounts can range from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars.

Another reminder to join us for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Manheim Farm Show Complex, 502 E. Adele Avenue.

National Night Out is a great opportunity to spend an evening with your neighbors, meet your local first responders, and strengthen the partnerships that help keep our community safe.

There will be something for everyone to enjoy, including a bounce house obstacle course, food from Piper Bells BBQ and Twisted Sister Ice Cream, coffee and snacks from Hope Served, and the chance to meet local first responders and check out their equipment and vehicles.

Several community organizations will also be on hand, including the Manheim Community Library, Girl Scouts, SPCA, Community Health and Wellness, Lancaster County Children & Youth, PA State Parole, Manheim Community Life Group, Hope Served, and Victim/Witness Services.

At 6:30 p.m., Officer Yarnell, our School Resource Officer, will present a program on the dangers of va**ng inside the Farm Show Complex.

We will also be holding our Stuff a Cruiser food drive throughout the event. Please consider bringing canned food or personal care items to help support the Manheim Central Food Pantry.

Come to enjoy the many special things planned: a PA State police helicopter, first responder displays, petting zoo, bounce houses, games, wagon rides, and lots more!

Hunters looking to purchase a second antlerless license for the 2026-27 hunting season will soon have the opportunity to do so when the second round of licensing begins on Monday, July 27.

As of that date, unsold licenses will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to both residents and nonresidents.

One antlerless deer license per hunter can be purchased per round in the first three rounds.

Licenses are available for purchase online at huntfish.pa.gov or in-person at license issuing agents.
