PennDOT invites the public to view the online plans display for the Sleepy Hollow Road Stream Relocation Project in Elizabeth Township. The project aims to improve roadway conditions and reduce recurring flooding caused by the nearby unnamed tributary to Hammer Creek.

Proposed improvements include localized full depth pavement and base repairs, roadway resurfacing, shoulder widening to current design standards, replacement of the existing cross pipe drainage facility, and relocation of the adjacent Unnamed Tributary to improve hydraulic performance and reduce roadway flooding and erosion.

A digital version of the information will be available to view online through June 26, 2026. View the plans and submit public comment here: https://www.pa.gov/agencies/penndot/projects-near-you/district-8-projects/sleepy-hollow-road-stream-relocation

The project is currently in design and construction work is expected to take place in the 2028 construction season.

"The United States and the freedom for which it stands, the freedom for which they died, must endure and prosper. Their lives remind us that freedom is not bought cheaply. It has a cost; it imposes a burden. And just as they whom we commemorate were willing to sacrifice, so too must we—in a less final, less heroic way—be willing to give of ourselves." - President Ronald Reagan

I encourage you to make a point this weekend to attend a local Memorial Day commemoration to offer respect for those who have served and for those who have given their lives to protect our freedoms. There will be several ceremonies and parades in our district this coming weekend:

Lititz

The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra will perform a patriotic concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, from the bandshell in Lititz Springs Park, 24 N. Broad St.

The Lititz Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 25,starting at 10:45 am. The parade will form on Warwick Street and start at the intersection of Warwick Street & West Lincoln Avenue. A public memorial ceremony will be held at the Moravian Cemetery immediately following the parade.

Manheim

The Manheim VFW Post 5956 - Cyrus R. Peters Memorial Postwill host its annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony on Monday, May 25, at Manheim Veterans Memorial Park, located next to the Manheim Central High School football stadium at 320 Memorial Drive. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. on Memorial Drive, proceeds down High Street to the square, continues north on Main Street, and turns east on Gramby Street to return to the park, where the ceremony will follow.

My legislative office, as well as most state offices, will be closed on Monday in honor of the holiday. PennDOT centers are closed Saturday and Monday.

Today is Armed Forces Day, a day set aside to recognize and honor the men and women who are currently serving in a branch of our armed forces.

The day was first celebrated in 1950, soon after the branches of the military were united under the leadership of the U.S. Department of Defense. In his proclamation marking the day, President Harry S. Truman called upon fellow citizens to “display the flag of the United States at their homes on Armed Forces Day and to participate in exercises expressive of our recognition of the skill, gallantry, and uncompromising devotion to duty characteristic of the Armed Forces in the carrying out of their missions.”

In other words, seek out opportunities to thank our men and women in uniform, not just today but every day.

Thank you to all of our attendees at our recent Scam Jam event at Moravian Manor Communities in Lititz! Really helpful information was shared for our gathering of seniors who are making wise moves to protect themselves from scams and fraud. It's an ever-changing challenge to keep up with all of the new scams, but they often leave tell-tale signs. Thank you, also, to all of our tremendous presenters from the PA Banking and Securities, the Lititz Borough Police Department, and the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office.

Honoring 61 Years of Service to the Community

This week, Larry Groff was honored for a truly amazing 61 years of valuable service and dedication to the Mastersonville Fire Company and to our community! Through his long tenure of service there, he's served in many roles including Chief, Assistant Chief, Treasurer, and many other leadership roles. Now, he serves as Chaplain. A Rapho Township, Lancaster County - Pennsylvania resident, Larry has been available day and night to answer calls, and has served (and continues to serve) with bravery and a commitment to serve both his community and his fellow department volunteers. I was pleased to have a House citation delivered to him to help recognize his service. Larry, thank you for the sacrifices you've made!
