• Because the Riverwalk and piers are located along the river channel and Lake Michigan, maintenance methods must protect water quality.

• Power washing and harsh chemicals aren't always appropriate, as they can damage materials or allow contaminants to enter the water.

• The City uses environmentally responsible practices to maintain these community assets while protecting our natural resources.

DDA-Led River Street Streetscape Project Funding

• $756,825 grant awarded through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) Program.
• Local funding partners include the Manistee DDA ($609,000), City of Manistee ($303,000), and the Manistee County Community Foundation ($250,000).
• Together, these investments fully fund the $1.89 million project and keep all core placemaking improvements moving forward.

And before anyone asks - YES, the Christmas tree is staying. It still fits just fine on River Street!

Leak has been found on a private fire suppression system. It has been isolated.

If you are currently experiencing brown or rusty water, low pressure or observe any abnormal surface water, please contact the Water Department immediately at 231-723-7132.

The City has become aware of a significant water leak after observing a prolonged rapid drop in water levels at the City’s water towers. We are asking for the public’s assistance in helping identify the source of the leak.

Thank you for your assistance and patience as crews work to locate and address the issue.
